"Books are the plane, and the train and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are Home." Anna Quindlen
The cake was magnificent.
When Wei Ying saw how big it was, and how beautiful, he had tears in his eyes.
"No wonder she went around carrying a knife." He told Lan Zhan, who smirked and kissed the top of his head.
The whole thing was the inside of the Lan Institute fiction department, complete with different coloured and flavored books, and such was the detailing by her hard work that every single book had a title.
The cake was the star...
Everyone wanted to know who the cake was made by, and Shijie was overwhelmed with enquiries.
Lan XiChen rang his glass, and the whole ballroom became silent.
"Let us toast to the newly married couple, may they live a long and happy life together!"
Cheers rang out as glasses were sipped...and then someone dropped one.
Lan Zhan immediately tightened his hold on Wei Ying's waist, searching his face...but Wei Ying gave him a small smile as if he too was not daring to breath. All around them, the noise continued to grow, the natural ebb and flow of conversation passed over them, but Lan Zhan held Wei Ying’s face, desperately hoping he was alright.
Wei Ying lifted his hand and covered Lan Zhan's, leaning into his touch.
"I'm okay, my love." He whispered, relief the strongest emotion in those silver starlight eyes.
"Yes. We are." Lan Zhan pulled him into a fierce hug. "I am proud of my Wei Ying."
Wei Ying kissed his neck, relishing in the comfort he found here within these arms.
He couldn’t quite believe it either, but Doctor Wen Qing's method really seemed to work. She had warned him at the start, that if he didn't take his treatment seriously, he could have a seizure and that fact alone scared him too much not to listen.
Now, he was hugging Lan Zhan back, with everything he had.
"Cake! Cake! Cake!" The crowds chanted.
They separated reluctantly with Lan Zhan making promises with his eyes. A knife was produced and dishes handed to them.
"I will hold Wei Ying's hand." Lan Zhan said, smiling warmly at him.
Wei Ying beamed back and took the knife. But when he looked at the masterpiece, he couldn't decide where to make the first cut. It was so beautiful, so perfect, even with three tiny figures sitting at the table in the centre. His Shijie's attention to details was phenomenal.
"A-Xian...anywhere is fine! It's going to be eaten whatever happens. And I've taken pictures so don't worry." A warm voice said next to his outer ear.
"Okay, Shijie. Here goes!"
They both cut a small piece off the cake and placed it on a single dish. With a small golden fork that reminded Wei Ying of Lan Zhan’s eyes, he took a small piece and held it to Lan Zhan's lips eagerly, wanting him to taste the marvel that was his sister's cooking talent.
Those beautiful pink lips opened hesitantly because Lan Zhan wanted to Wei Ying to eat it first, and he wanted to be the first to put it in Wei Ying's mouth...but now it was too late.
Heaven with all its delights exploded upon his tongue as he tasted chocolate and orange and vanilla frosting. Using the same fork, he offered a piece of cake to Wei Ying, and he was faster, getting in at least three bites before servers came and began dishing it out to the guests.
