Wei Ying wakes up feeling safe and warm.

It's the best feeling.

There are strong arms around him and he is nicely comfortable. Under his ear, a heart beats. Its rhythm is constant and level but only for a few minutes; it suddenly becomes faster.

"Wei Ying?"

It is Lan Zhan.

His voice is deep and tonight it makes Wei Ying shiver. He doesn't want to move though.

"Hello, Lan Zhan." He looks up to golden eyes worried and tense, looking back at him.

"Are you alright?" Lan Zhan asks. "The curse? Do you feel any difference?"

His eyes are still intense and bright.

It all comes back to Wei Ying, everything: his running here after deciding what to do. Choosing Lan Zhan to be the safest harbour for himself, and having the foresight to use a remembering talisman on himself.

That's why he knows what happened.

As soon as the realisation hits, he's scrambling up and trying to leave the bed...but Lan Zhan is in the way. It doesn't help that his feet get tangled up in the bed sheet and he ends up in a heap on the floor.

Worried golden eyes stare back, even as Lan Zhan effortlessly picks him back up again.

Now they're sitting on the bed, staring at one another.

"How much do you remember?" Lan Zhan asks him.

"Everything." Wei Ying does not question why he cannot lie to Lan Zhan. "Thank you for...looking after me." Wei Ying stands to bow.

He should probably leave...it is still dark and perhaps he can make it back to the room he shares with Jiang Cheng before daybreak...

"Stay." Lan Zhan says softly.

"Huh?" Wei Ying is absolutely sure he's misheard.

"Stay...if you want to. Please." The last word sounds desperate.

Wei Ying is already nodding and he goes back to sit on the bed.

But Lan Zhan shifts backwards and holds the sheet open. It is cooler outside of the bed, and Wei Ying pauses, glancing at Lan Zhan who nods, before getting back in the bed.

It is warm and Wei Ying is immediately glad of it.

He is lying down next to Lan Zhan and they are facing each other at the moment. Wei Ying thinks this might be a dream and he hasn't actually woken up yet.

It is a surreal feeling.

"I should ... I would like to apologise to Wei Ying." Lan Zhan suddenly blurts out.

Wei Ying is already shaking his head. "What for? You're the one who looked after me...I want to say thank you."

And the next thing he knows, Lan Zhan has scooted even closer and wrapped his arms around Wei Ying’s shoulders.

Wei Ying is too shocked to move.

"I need to tell you some things...but it is easier if you aren't looking at me." Lan Zhan admits.

"That's why you're hugging me?" His voice is muffled.

"Wei Ying likes hugs." Lan Zhan replies almost forcefully, because he's defensive about it.

"I do...but you don't....I think." Wei Ying slowly lets his arms go around the older boy.

They are quiet for a while.
