Wei Ying was sitting in a hard chair, his hands tied behind his back, a blindfold across his eyes. There was a funny smell, sickly sweet, still ghosting around his nose and in the back of his throat, and he realised he had been taken.

He struggled, trying to free his hands but the ropes bit into his skin. The old metal of the chair frame did nothing to ease the burn as he tried not to panic.

Laughter rang out.

The sound, so familiar, chilled him to the bone.

Meng Yao.

Wei Ying heard the sound of footsteps coming towards him, a warm hand cup his face, and he tried to wrench away, but the hand grabbed his chin, roughly kissing his already bruised lips. Wei Ying turned his head and earned himself a resounding slap.

It was so forceful, he saw stars as the chair tilted back. But Meng Yao caught it, righting it as he spoke.

"So how are you doing, Little Lotus? Did you miss me?"

How had he ever thought that voice was nice? It grated on Wei Ying's nerves, making him jittery.

"ANSWER ME!!"

The sudden shout in his ear made his blood pound faster in his veins, his mind echoing those words. Wei Ying felt hot and cold all over.

How had this happened? Why was he here? Why was Meng Yao here?

"You've become so bold, Little Lotus...and a slut! How could you get yourself another man, when I am right here?"

Wei Ying shuddered. He resumed his efforts to release his wrists.

"I am going to enjoy punishing you so much..." there was a familiar swish in the air, and then the snap crackle of a whip striking his chest with a fierce precision.

Wei Ying screamed.

And then he felt himself being shaken.

"WEI YING?" Another voice, this one far more welcome, had him opening his eyes, fear making his heart beat out of his chest.

"Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying burst into tears.

Strong arms wrapped around him, holding him close. Lan Zhan spoke to him in a soft voice, soothing away his fears.

"Just a dream...not real...Wei Ying is safe..." He repeated, holding the shaking man tightly.

"But it felt real." Wei Ying murmured, miserably.

Lan Zhan leaned to the side and poured him a glass of water. He held it to Wei Ying's lips, making sure he took small sips.

"More?"

Wei Ying shook his head, eyes filling with tears again.

"I'm sorry for waking you...haven't had a nightmare in weeks." He whispered.

Lan Zhan held him closer again, this time rubbing warm circles on his back with his big hands.

"Wei Ying suffered nightmares before?"

The concern in his voice made Wei Ying's tears fall faster as he remembered.

"Yeah...they were really bad...three years ago. But with time and medication, they went away. I guess seeing his face...after all this time. Must have triggered a memory or something." But Wei Ying couldn't stop shaking.

He wanted to be strong...really, he did. But those latest images in his head would not allow him to be, not letting him forget.

"Wei Ying is safe. Nothing will happen to him."
