Lan Zhan feels warm and comfortable, and it's only because his body clock is insisting on waking him up, that his eyes open.

Sunlight creeps across the room, signalling his lateness with a silent judgement. Lan Zhan realises there's a weight on the right hand side of his body, and the breathtaking, mouthwatering fragrance of flowers hangs just under his nose…and what is this?

His fingers tangle in soft, luxurious locks of dark hair and for a second, Lan Zhan has to wonder if he's still dreaming.

This is…it is Wei Ying!

In his arms.

In bed.

They are sharing a bed.

The shock of his own thoughts prevents him from actually moving, but internally, Lan Zhan has sprinted around the world.

Twice.

How could this be?

Last night comes back to him in increments, as he recalls that wonderful afternoon, playing with the children of Yiling.

He might not have done much playing with them, but it was the first time Lan Zhan felt as if he was a part of something. Part of a family, because they had simply accepted him.

He had enjoyed it, being with the children, most of all, being with Wei Ying.

The last gift.

And then visiting the old barn where all the kiddies slept…meeting the Wens, and learning how Wei Ying spent his free time. Well, it wasn't exactly free, and it wasn't exactly his, because Lan Zhan was sure a manservant had to have some duties, right? And Wei Ying wasn't exactly what he would call a model employee.

But, in Lan Zhan’s opinion, Wei Ying was the best person.

He didn't need to add a place or a time to that sentence, because in his mind, both were inconsequential.

Wei Ying was the best, and that was all there was to it.

But then, they'd stepped outside of the barn and straight into Hell.

The Dogs.

Wei Ying’s panic.

Playing WangJi…

The last thing Lan Zhan remembered.

Sometime in the night, he had fallen asleep, the echoes of the song he had unconsciously created on the fly still ringing in his ears.

Right next to a sleeping Wei Ying.

He hoped Wei Ying felt better today, not so scared, just happy as he always ought to be.

But they are in bed, together.

Today, of all days.

On the day of his marriage to someone else.

Lan Zhan’s guilt would not let him stay there, so he gently extricated himself from the bed and the tangle of limbs that resulted in a sprawled out Wei Ying clutching his pillow to his chest.

Lan Zhan rolled off the bed and stood up, looking at the beautiful man lying there.

Shadows framed those gorgeous eyes, windows of the Universe and all its magic hidden within. Wei Ying’s thick lashes curled over rosy cheeks flushed with sleep, his cute button nose still scrunched in the most delightful way, and those lips!

So pink, plump and begging to be kissed!

But reality came crashing down upon him.

Lan Zhan was still bound by his promise to the Kitsune.
