"Mom, hear me out!"
"No! You didn't even call! I was up all night worried sick! And now you had me come down to this hospital at 5:30 in the morning for you to ask me this nonsense?!"
"Listen! Kai's dad almost killed her a few hours ago! She can't use her quirk, and she has nowhere to go! I'm her friend, I have to help her."
"If you had your own house then maybe you could help her! But I'm not gonna be held responsible for yet another kid! You're enough to deal with already!"
"She's not a kid, and you don't have to be responsible for her! I'm just asking you to give her a place to rest her head at night! She has no other options!"
Mom crosses her arms. "This is the same girl that had you talking to yourself and punching holes in my walls?"
I look up at the ceiling with a sigh.
"If you think I'm gonna let you two disturb the peace in my home you are wrong."
"No, mom! You don't understand! Me and Kai never fight! It was just that one time, and we're over it now!" At least part of that is true. We have only had one actual fight, but I'm pretty sure she's still pissed at me. "Please, mom," I plead. "I can't just leave her in the dust."
Mom shifts her weight and puts her tongue in her cheek. "So you really care about this 'Kai' character?"
I nod.
Her frown softens. "Awe, Katsuki," she says, pouting her lip. She reaches out and ruffles my hair. "You're growing up so fast."
I roll my eyes.
She takes a deep breath, and lets it out in a long sigh. "She can stay."
"Really?"
She holds up a finger. "But if I ever catch you in her room I will beat the living shit out of both of you."
"Got it."
"So are you gonna take me inside to meet her or what?"
I gulp. "Oh. Um, yeah. I guess."
It's kind of nerve-wracking introducing the two women in my life. I don't think my mom and Kai's personalities exactly... match.
I knock on the hospital room door, and open it slowly. "Hey, Kai," I say, "This is, um, my mom."
Kai's face lights up. "Mrs. Bakugo! It's so nice to finally meet you! Katsuki says very nice things."
Oh, good. She's not being herself.
Mom chuckles. "You don't have to lie to me, Kai. I already said you can stay."
"Really?" Kai says, looking over at me.
I nod.
She smiles wide. "Thank you so much Mrs. Bakugo!"
"Hold on," Mom says, "There's a few rules. Number one: No fighting."
"Got it," we both say in unison.
"Number 2: No kissing, cuddling, or anything like that under my roof."
Kai looks over at me in horror. "What did you tell her?!"
I feel my cheeks get hot. "Mom!" I say in a harsh whisper.
"What? I'm not stupid, you two. And don't think you'll be able to sneak around, I'll know."
"Yes ma'am..." Kai says, blushing profusely.
