"Second place? That's not so bad," says Sero.
"Yeah, but do you think that's how he feels, though?" mutters Kiri.
I watch as Katsuki has a full on breakdown at our complete and utter failure. I can't help but feel as if it was my fault, our last glitch just wasn't fast enough. We got so close to getting that 10 million, but in the end, it just didn't end up happening.
Although I'm starting to feel pretty woozy, I use what little is left of my energy to amble over to Katsuki's side, placing my hand softly on his shoulder. Half to be nice, and half to keep me standing. "Hey, kittykat," I sigh, "I'm sorry I couldn't have been more of a help," I say, growing weaker with every word that I speak.
"Get off me!" He shouts, batting my hand away.
And with my support gone, my knees buckle at the weight of my body, and the next thing I know, I'm on the ground.
"Woah, Bakugo, what the hell?!" I hear Kiri say as he runs to my side.
"I didn't do anything! She just fell!" says Katsuki, sounding as if he's underwater.
I use my arms to lift my trunk off the ground to a seated position. "He's right," I say wearily. "I just fell. It wasn't his fault." I put my hand on my pounding head, waiting for the intense headrush to pass. "I knew I shouldn't have glitched us that last time. It didn't even help us," I mutter, thoughts starting to cloud.
"It's okay, Kaiya," Kiri says. He starts to say something else, but I don't have the brainpower to catch what it was.
"Thanks, Kiri," I say, now with the sound of blood rushing in my ears so loud I can hardly hear myself think.
Man, I feel weird. I should probably get to the nurse's office.
I try to stand up, but my body just doesn't let me. I fall to my hands and knees.
I hear Kiri say something once again, but I'm not sure what it was. I lower myself back into my criss-cross applesauce position, and watch as Kiri runs off to the side of the stadium.
Hm. I wonder where he's off to.
I rest my elbow on my knee to hold my chin up, doing everything in my power to stay conscious.
"Hey, are you like, okay?" says Katsuki. Which startles me, I forgot he was even sitting there.
"Yeah..." I say, his face reminding me of what happened in the calvary battle just now. "Again, I'm sorry I couldn't take us all the way to first place," I manage to say, which is pretty difficult with my mouth being as dry as it is. "I know how much you wanted it, I wanted it too..." I sigh. "I'm not used to losing. Well, losing on accident."
"What do you mean losing on accident?" he says, "You lose on purpose?"
I start to sway side to side, trying to keep myself awake. "Psh. You think I couldn't've beaten all of y'all in the obstacle race? I can literally teleport."
"Then why didn't you?"
Wait, what am I saying?
"I have my reasons... I really did try to win this though, for you," I say, barely able to hear my own voice over the pounding of my head.
It's true, if I can't be the one to beat him, I want Katsuki to win this whole thing. It'd make me happy to see him make his badass statement at the beginning of this thing come true.
Huh, I wonder when I started to feel that way. I'm not really sure, but... man, I'm sleepy. Maybe I should just get a little shuteye before the next event...
I lower myself down to the ground, no longer trying to fight how tired I am.
Katsuki bends down to look at me. "Dude, are you good?" he says.
I nod.
I'm fine. I just need a minute...
~
I open my eyes and sit up in a panic, frantically looking around the white room.
What happened? Where am I?
"I see you're awake," says Recovery Girl, sitting in a chair on the other side of what I've recognized now as the infirmary.
"How long was I out?!" I ask. "Am I disqualified?!"
"You were only asleep for about 45 minutes. You overused your quirk. Are you feeling alright?"
"Better than ever," I reply quickly, ready to get back to the arena before the next event begins.
"Are you sure?" she asks.
"Yeah. I'm totally fine. I usually only have to sleep for half an hour to be at full strength again. Can I leave now?"
"If you think you're up for it, you may-"
"Thanks!" I say, leaping out of the cot, out of the room, and down the hall back to the arena. But just as I get there, everyone is walking backstage already. I manage to spot Kiri through the crowd of students, and sprint over to his side.
"Kai!" he says with a smile. "You're alright! You had me worried there for a-"
"Yeah, yeah. I'm good. What did I miss?"
"Nothing, really. We're getting a break before our next event."
"Which is..?"
"One on one battles."
My heart soars at the sound of that. 1v1 battles? I'm kind of an expert. This festival just keeps getting better and better.
