chapter 72: as good as dead

   Suddenly, to my surprise, I open my eyes.

I lift my head up and look around to check if I'm at the hospital, or Shiggy's lair.

I'm relieved at the sight of Kiri sitting in a chair beside me, looking down at his phone.

"I survived that shit?" I mutter.

"Kai," Kiri says with a big smile, holding on to my hand.

"Hey, Kiri," I say, smiling softly.

"What the hell happened to you?" Katsuki asks, sitting in a chair across the room, arms folded.

   "Oh, I thought you never wanted to talk to me again," I tease.

   "Oh ha-ha. Shut up. Tell me what happened."

I roll my eyes. "I got pushed out of a moving car, what do you think happened, numb nuts?"

He stands, and slowly walk towards me, arms still folded. "By who?" he asks. He looks like a detective in an interrogation. It's kinda cute, but also extremely annoying.

I close my eyes with a sigh.

He pulls up a chair next to Kiri, and leans in. "Who did this to you, Kaiya?"

How can I possibly explain this away? He certainly isn't gonna let this one go.

"He did," I mutter.

"Your dad?" he asks.

I nod.

Katsuki sits straight up. "I'm gonna fucking kill him," he chuckles, shaking his head.

Oh, god. Not this. If Katsuki looks too hard into my life, the gig's up, and it's all going down in flames.

"No," I blurt. "Don't. It's my fault."

"What?!" he and Kiri say in unison, with confused looks on their faces.

I sigh. "I put myself in that situation. It was no one's fault but my own."

It's true. I never should have gotten into that car with him. I should have ran as soon as he showed up in my apartment.

"Kai, he almost killed you!" Katsuki yells, angrily.

That, he did. I never thought Shiggy would do something so drastic, but he did.

And now, all I know is, this shit isn't over.

"You almost killed me too," I say, trying to change the subject.

"Wh-" Katsuki says, looking angrier than I've ever seen him. "That was an accident! He crushed your hand and threw you out of a car!"

"And I'm fine!" I say, "Seriously, don't retaliate. It will just make it worse."

He leaps out of his chair to his feet. "How could it possibly be any worse?!"

He could come back. Kidnap me. Kill me. I've gotta skip town as soon as I'm out of this place.

"Well I've learned my lesson okay?" I say, annoyed at all of these questions. "Now I know I need to stay the hell away from him. It won't happen again."

   "Why didn't you call an ambulance?" Katsuki asks, annoyingly.

   Shit.

   I scoff. "Don't interrogate me."

   "No, I'm tired of that shit! You're gonna tell me! Why wouldn't you let us call an ambulance for you?!"

   "Oh my god," I groan. "It's none of your business okay?"
