chapter 16: drunk idiots

"Hey, Bakugo!"

I turn around to see Kirishima and Glitch-girl running up to me.

Jesus Christ, not these two. I'm not in the mood after my pitiful win today. I just wanna go home.

"What do you want?" I groan as they catch up to me.

"Okay, Kitty-kat," Glitch-girl says, "I know you're upset right now, but me and Kiri wanted to celebrate!"

"Celebrate what?" I mutter.

Why would I celebrate? I pledged to get an indisputable first place, and I didn't. Today was a complete and utter failure.

"Well," says Kirishima, "If we're not gonna celebrate your first place, what about Kai's third?"

I roll my eyes. "And why would I want to do that?"

"So you can drown your sorrows in alcohol!" blurts Glitch-girl, excitedly.

"Huh?"

These losers seriously think I'd drink with them? They're tripping balls.

"Yeah, c'mon man!" says Kirishima. "Kai knows a karaoke place that doesn't card!"

"No way," I say. "I'm not doing that."

"C'monnnn," Glitch-girl insists, "What? Are you afraid your mommy will be mad if you come home a little tipsy?"

   I am, actually, but they don't have to know that.

"You shut up!" I yell.

"C'mon, Kitty-kat! You owe me one! You blasted me all the way to kingdom come today!"

"Hey, you said that wasn't my fault!"

"I mean, it was a little your fault," she says quietly, out of one corner of her mouth. "C'monnnn," she nudges me. "Please?" she says, batting her eyelashes.

I mean, I guess I kinda do owe her one. And if I go straight to bed when I get home, my mom will never know. And who knows? Maybe this'll be fun. I haven't drank since high school, and that was just half a bottle of sake that my friend stole from his brother. I've never been served drinks at a karaoke bar before.

I sigh. "Fine."

"Yay!" Glitch-girl pumps her fists and jumps up and down. "Okay, the place is called Barcode. Gimme your phone so I can add my number and send you the address." She holds out her hand.

I reluctantly hand her my phone.

He hands tremble slightly as she types in her number and sends a text that says "hi kittykat!" "Okay," she says, "Let's meet there at 8. This is gonna be so fun!" she says excitedly, then skips away.

When I finally make it to the bar, I see Kirishima waiting patiently outside.

"Hey," I say as I walk up to him.

"How's it going, bro?" he says with a smile. "I was half thinking you weren't gonna show!"

"Yeah... Where's the girl?" I ask. I'm about 15 minutes late, so she should be here by now.

"You mean Kai?" says Kirishima, annoyingly.

"Yeah, whatever. Where the hell is she?"

"She should be here soon..." he says, glancing at his watch.

"Well..." I say, "I've been meaning to talk to you, anyway."

"What's up, man?"

"Why did you make me feel like it was my fault when she passed out after the calvary battle, when it was clearly on her?"
