Chapter 9

Mud

Sometimes, you have to prepare for unexpected happenings. You have to think wisely when it comes to trust.

"Kailangan ba talaga na pumunta tayo, My? Masama kutob ko, e," pang-aamin ko sa aking damdamin.

Well, in fact, I'm just thinking this: maybe I should stay at our house and just sleep or study? Whatever I want, my mind will be preoccupied with something.

Lumingon siya sa gawi ko. Mommy walked gracefully towards me with her signature walk. She doesn't change her passion, even now. She never changes, contrary to what I've seen on social media. One thing I like about her is that she has this way of something you can never find in someone. I wanted to be like her because of the way she speaks and walks, but not because of her passion. It's most likely close.

Mommy smiled when she was in front of me. Her gentle eyes found my upset face.

"What's wrong, anak? When occasions happen, you always have a bright smile, but for now you have this uneasy face. Look, if this, what about your Dad? He's just overly protective when it comes to you. After all, you're the only daughter and granddaughter of Villanueva. "

"I know, Mommy, but can I stay home? I need to relax. You know, there's a lot of homework and stuff to do for school. I need to study."

Mommy sighed, like she wasn't going to buy my loophole.

"You can't lie to me, anak. I know you. If you can't go, then I respect you, but your Lola? Try to explain it to her, anak," natatawa niyang sabi habang nakatanaw sa akin.

Umayos siya nang tindig at nagpatuloy sa kung ano'ng ginagawa niya kanina: hinahanapan ako ng masusuot.

"How about this one, anak?"

Tinaas ni mommy ang isang hanger. I eyed it carefully. It was a dashing gold. It fit well though.

"Anything will do, Mommy. I just think about it."

Okay, anak, then I will tell your grandma, okay?"

Tumango naman ako. Lumabas siya sa aking walk-in closet, iniwan niya naman kung saan ang damit nakalagay. Nagtungo yata sa telephone, trying to contact the people downstairs. It was a huge home, so we needed to say something very important.

I could hear Mommy's remarks to Lola. I can sense that they are fighting about that. I stood up and went to the dresses. I sighed in defeat when, in my peripheral vision, I saw Mommy looking at me.
