Chapter 27 - Rough Position

"Kevin you can't do that" Cara said
"I can and I will" Kevin said before walking away
It's later that night and Cara has met up with Hailey
"He's not thinking straight Cara, he'll come round" Hailey said
"I need to go back to Afghanistan tomorrow, I can't take 2 weeks then get a further few weeks off" Cara explained
"Do you really think that's a good idea?" Hailey asked
"What do you mean?" Cara asked
"It's just that's the whole reason your in this position. Take it from a cop who sees things like this on a daily basis. Why don't you quit and then you get to see Addy grow up. Work at the academy? It's still good pay?" Hailey suggested
"But it's all I've ever wanted to do, go to war and fight. Protect families from being broken up" Cara explained
"Yet at home yours is being broken up" Hailey added
"I was never made out to be a mom, my mom was never in the picture and my dad was always working. Don't get me wrong they cared but Kevin's mom raised me. That's why I think Addy will be fine with him" Cara said
"You can't loose this little girl Cara, that's all I'm saying" Hailey added
It's the next day and Cara is back in Afghanistan. She has met up with Davis
"Your back?" Davis asked
"I'm leaving for a few weeks" Cara said
"What? Why?" Davis asked
"There's something I need to take care of, but when I come back I'm moving away from Chicago. I'm not sure where but I can't live there anymore" Cara said in a panic
"Tell me what's going on" Davis said as she sat down
"Kevin, remember him?" Cara asked
"Of course, who could forget him?!" Davis added
"He's taking me to court for custody of my daughter" Cara said
"What? Why the hell is he doing that?!" Davis yelled
"He's got a point, I don't know anything about Addy" Cara said
"Of course you do! What about those letters you get sent almost everyday from that Hailey chick? You read them over and over again! You know everything about your daughter Cara. You survived an abusive relationship with her! Of course you gave her to Kev! No one would forgive themselves if something happened to her. Now your going to fight for your daughter weather you like it or not" Davis yelled
"Thanks Davis" Cara said as she smiled
It's a week later and Cara's time off is finally here, she is back in Chicago however is staying at her old apartment she used to have with Scott. It wasn't ideal but she had to do it. It's late at night and Cara can't stop thinking about everything, it's like her mind won't stop. Her breathing was erratic and she just couldn't catch a breath. She drives to Kevin's house and frantically knocks on the door.
"What are you doing here?" Kevin asked
"Her favourite food is mashed potatoes. She's only started on solids as she's still only 6 months old. Her favourite toy is a little elephant stuffy" Cara sobbed, hardly taking any breaths
"Cara" Kevin muttered
"She likes her little sunshine night light on when she goes to bed. She's a hugger just like her mom." Cara sobbed
"Cara?!" Kevin yelled
"I'm not fighting you for custody" Cara said
