Sunlight streamed down from the clouds and Gideon wiped the sweat off of his forehead.
"It sure is hot here." He flapped the collar of the uniform he was wearing to produce small gusts of wind in his frail and thin body.
"I wonder if the kids ate already." He spoke while fanning himself with the sheath of his sword.
He had just been promoted as a knight and he was currently working as a guard knight in one of the most prestigious families in the kingdom.
His uniform was somehow stuffy but it was enough than having to tread the harsh paths of the mountains in the kingdom's southern region.
While he was trying to cool himself down, various explosions came down from the training area near his spot and he sweatdropped thinking how scary the scholars were for causing such huge explosions.
"Haaah, I want to eat. I'm hungry!" He complained with a pained expression on his face.
Gideon continued to guard his post until the sun was at the brightest of the day and he was about to faint if he did not drink enough water.
"Huh?" He asked particularly to no one as he saw a figure from a distance start to make its way towards his direction.
Closer and closer, until he started to see the person who was approaching him.
Dark raven hair that contrasted the surroundings well, cream colored clothes that looked good on his porcelain skin, and an annoyed face.
Gideon raised his eyebrows as he could not identify who the individual was.
He did not get any notice that some noble would be visiting the area now. Instead, what he got was to restrict the training grounds to let the scholars practice their magic.
The stranger was crossing his arms and he had a frown on his face.
"Who goes there?" The knight asked and the stranger's face became even more annoyed.
Slowly, the stranger grabbed something from his chest and Gideon squinted his eyes when the former raised it in the air.
The badge shined brightly under the bright sun and Gideon felt his entire world pause when he instantly knew who was the holder of the badge.
He grabbed the umbrella that was inside his post and hurriedly ran outside.
He ran so fast without stopping that he was starting to get dizzy since he had been experiencing so much heat since earlier.
"Young Master Pier! It's my first time seeing you come here! Forgive me for not knowing immediately!" He spoke his apologies in a loud yet sincere voice.
The young master winced at his actions and Gideon closed his mouth knowing how loud he can be. His face dropped and he had a horrified expression on his face.
It was Pier.
The successor of the most prestigious household in the kingdom. He was the young master who was rumored to be the king's favorite and the Crown Prince's childhood friend.
Would he lose his job now that he had been careless and did not know it was the young master?
What would he do now?
He had been looking for this vacant spot for so long so he could be a part of the guards here.
His eyes started to water as he cannot think life without the job he currently has.
He did not want to go back at the orphanage where he had grown up after losing his household and his family.
Worse, he even heard the rumors of how the young master fired all of the servants from the main mansion days ago!
