Chapter 26__The first snow

Dorris woke up and look out of the window.
It's snowing. The first snow. Her first snow with Ray.
She called Ray.
Dorris📞_ Murray, good morning.
Murray📞_Morning babe
Dorris📞_Are you still sleeping?
Murray📞_uhn.
Dorris📞_It's first snow. Let's go to the ski resort at night.
Murray📞Ok. Anything for you.
Dorris smiled.
Dorris📞_I'm so excited to see the first snow.
Murray📞_Why? Snow is troublesome you know.
Dorris📞_Murray, you have to come early. You know this is our first snow together.
Murray 📞_okay. Dress warmly so that you will not catch a cold.
Dorris📞_okay. Stop nagging.
Murray📞_See you in the evening,  babe.
Dorris📞_hmm
She dropped the phone. She is excited.
She hoped he will not mention marriage again so that they won't quarrel again.

Ashley was at work when she saw the notification.
Douglas sent money to her.
Ashley raised her brows. While will he send money to her. For what?
She dialed his number but he is not answering. She decided to ask him later when they meet.
She checked her wrist watch.
How dare that guy make her wait? She'd waited for ten minutes.
She finally saw him. He ran to her.
"Ashley",  He called, grinning.
" Don't you know you shouldn't be late when you ask a woman out?", she asked.
"I'm sorry. I got delayed"
"You should wear thicker coats",  Ashley told him.
" Okay. I will obey you ", he said.
" Do you want to go to the Ski resort?", he asked her.
"No. Let's just eat dinner",  Ashley said.
" You sent money to me. Do you want to keep it for you? ", She asked him as they walk side by side.
" It's my first salary and it's for you ", He told her.
" Why?", Ashley asked stopping in her tracks.
"I mean why is your first salary for me. If you really want to give someone, he should be your dad",  Ashley said.
" That's what a filial child will do", She added.
"But I wanted to give you...".
" I will send this back to you. Wire it to your dad. Trust me, he will be proud  of you. You can give the next salary to me but not this, okay?", Ashley told him.
"Okay",  Douglas said. " I will obey you"

Ray just finished a meeting. His assistant came to him immediately he got out of the meeting room.
"Chairman, Miss Ava is waiting in the office",  Jerome said.
Ray wondered what she is up to.
He entered his office. She smiled when she saw him.
" You look tired uhn?", she said.
"What are you doing here? Didn't I tell you to stop dropping in without calling me?", he asked.
Ava ignored him.
" I saw that it's first snow today. Shall we go to a ski resort?", she asked him.
"Not today",  he told her.
" Why not?", Ava asked.
"I have somewhere to go",  Ray simply said.
" But I really want to go the ski resort during  first snow",
"Then go alone!",  Ray half yelled.
" I want to go with you Ray!", Ava insists.
"What if I said I'm not going with you? Do you think you can order me around?",  he asked her.
" Ray, Please go out with with me tonight. Hear me out please", Ava said.
"Let's go some other day",  Ray told her.
" Do you want me to teach Dorris a lesson? Shall I start with her father,  her brother or her friend? Should I send them all out in the streets!", Ava asked.
"Then I will give them shelter. Then I will return whatever it is they took from them",  Ray said.
Ava let out a small laugh.
" It seems you don't know how prideful the people in the slums are. They prefer whatever they have to receiving charity. They want to live their life the way they've been living it. The moment I start harassing them, she will leave you if that will bring things back to the way it usually is. It is not as if she liked you", Ava said.
Ray face darken.
"Ava, are you threatening me?",  he asked her.
" No, I'm not. I'm only trying to get what I want", Ava said.
"You......"
"Ray, let's go to the sky resort, please",  Ava pleaded.
" I really want to go", She added.
Ray brought out his phone and texted Dorris.
"I'm going on a business dinner. I won't be able to accompany you tonight".
He felt bad for lying to her but he had to.
"Let's go",  he told Ava.
Ava smirks.
She knew he would  follow her.

The elevator opened and he came out of the elevator with Ava. Many thoughts are running through his head. How to convince his parents to allow him live his own life.
He is also wondering if Dorris love him. If she really will stay with him for long. If she will stand by his side in time of storms and heavy rain. If she will not be wavered by the heavy wind. If she will be able to stand the hot sun and cruel heat of his world. He also wonder if he will be able to protect her. He wonder if he will be able to express his love and care for her. He remembered the way his brother stood Melinda up when they are about to get married, his brother jilted Melinda and escaped from this world alone. He remembered Vividly that the people from their world did not accept Melinda because she is an entertainer. The upper class people saw entertaining as something meant for the lower class. He remembered the trouble his brother was going through before his death. He remembered how his mother harassed Melinda on the streets. He remembered how his parent embarrassed Melinda the day she visited their house with his brother. He remembered how his father swore to disown his brother if he will not stop seeing Melinda. He remembered when he went to his brother begging him not to leave the family and that he should nake up with their father because he(Ray) knew he will be forced to come and take over the family business and stop playing around_that's is what his father call his career as an artiste. Ray is so scared. He didn't want Dorris to go through the same thing Melinda went through. He wanted to protect Dorris. That's why he is allowing Ava to order him around.
Immediately they walk out of the elevator, Ray saw Dorris waiting there with a smile on her face but the smile faded immediately Dorris saw Ava beside him.
Dorris turned and Ran out.
Ray ran after ignoring Ava calls.
Ava stomped her feet angrily.
"Damn that wench!",  she yelled, her veins popping out.
