chenle waited not-so-patiently for jaemin, and to his surprise, the older was not high on his coffee as his car zoomed through the place, almost in haste, to see what happened to his best friend.
jaemin opened the door, concerningly looking at chenle with his bags, along with daegal in his hands, meaning he was about to leave...permanently. another confusing thing was that he did not ask jisung to accompany him, his ex-partners usually did such a thing because he forced him to.
"lele, what happened? where's sungie? and where are you off to all of a sudden?" jaemin asked assertively, to which chenle fell silent.
"bitch, answer me! where are you going off to?!" jaemin screamed at him, "i swear, if you don't tell me, i'm going to call sungie and bring you back to him."
"he won't care anymore, nana, don't worry," chenle said, his voice shallow and lifeless. the brightest little dolphin looked no less than a pallid corpse.
"what do you mean...? and where are you going to...? answer me, please..." jaemin basically pleaded to him, worried sick about his best friend.
"well, our relationship wasn't going well at all...and i just knew it was best for the both of us to just break up and be done with," chenle breathed out. "and i dropped out of college because i don't study anymore. i'm going to look for an actual job."
"mind telling me what happened...?" jaemin tilted his head, asking chenle a question he really did not want to ask.
"n-nana...it's a long story...i just want to get everything over with..." chenle sighed. "and please don't tell anyone about this...i don't want anyone except for you to know about this."
"alright...but do you have any other place to stay? or do you want to stay with me for the time-being?" jaemin asked, raising an eyebrow.
chenle drooped his head down in defeat as that was his plan all along. "nana...i really don't have any other place to go...but it's fine if you don't want me to stay...i'll try somewhere else..."
"i...really can't let you stay in my dorms since you dropped out," jaemin replied dejectedly. "the only thing we could do is check for any cheap apartments nearby."
"i-it's fine...nana...i'll find a place for myself..." chenle said with much difficulty, almost tearing up then and there.
jaemin heed no attention to chenle's words as he whipped out his phone and started to call someone whom he did not recognise, walking far enough to be out of his earshot.
after a few minutes of serious rumbling, jaemin speedwalked back to chenle, a smile sporting on his face. "bitch, when there is a will, there is a way. I found a place for you to stay. for the time being, you're staying with me."
and with that said, jaemin pulled him into the car and drove back to his dorms, worry lacing the back of his head, about the condition of his best friend.
🍂
heuningkai approached his best friend's door, knocking on it so as that he could study with him for the upcoming final exam, which jisung was oblivious to. he noticed that the door moved forward, meaning it was unlocked.
he pushed the door open to be greeted with sniffles and quiet sobs in a familiar deep voice. he turned to the couch to see jisung curled up into a ball, crying his heart out. heuningkai immediately approached him, worried for his best friend.
"ji? what happened? why are you crying?" heuningkai asked in a firm yet gentle voice; this was something he though he would never see in his entire life.
no response came from jisung as he kept on crying, moving further away from him.
heuningkai then took notice of a certain someone's absence— someone who was the same reason for jisung being depressed 4 months ago. he stood up and looked at jisung assertively, now knowing the reason why he is crying. "alright now, where did chenle-hyung go all of a sudden? did he temporarily leave you again or something?"
jisung stopped crying as he turned back to heuningkai, drooping his head down hopelessly. "he didn't leave...temporarily. he...left me completely."
"what do you mean...?" heuningkai asked, anger bubbling up inside him, a part of him just wanting to go to whatever hellhole chenle escaped to and drag him back to jisung.
"we broke up."
that...was definitely not what heuningkai expected.
out of all the really loving interactions both had, heuningkai could not just deduce what went wrong. the only plausible explanation was that chenle betrayed his trust and went off for someone else.
that very thought alone made his blood boil.
"i...just didn't know he was this sensitive...i should have known better..." jisung started to ramble. "he put the blame all on himself and thought he was the problem here..."
"alright now, mind explaining what exactly happened?" heuningkai asked, pulling him up to look at him concerningly.
heaving a deep breath, jisung started to stutter his story, his lips wobbling as tears glistened his eyes. "one of my...h-hyungs found out that lele was not a girl...because i didn't want...my parents to kick me out for being gay...and h-he thought he was the problem here...and then we...b-broke up..."
"do you have any idea where he went...?" heuningkai asked gently. "ji, chenle-hyung doesn't hate you, he hates himself, and that's why he decided to break up, more like distance himself away from you. he still loves you and it hurts him equally as much as it hurt you."
"i have no idea where he went..." jisung trailed off, his sobs reducing into sniffles. "but...why did he leave...if he still loves me...?"
"maybe he thought it was for the best, but it wasn't," heuningkai stated. "never thought he had such a low self-esteem."
jisung fell silent at that sentence. even though skin-deep, chenle sounded confident in himself but it was all a façade. he was deeply insecure about everything— his attire, his attitude, his sexuality, almost everything. and jisung knew it more than anyone else.
"but for the time-being, let's give hyung some time alone," heuningkai said, hoping to clear some of the thoughts burdening jisung's mind. "i'm sure he's with his friends, trying to collect his own thoughts."
jisung wanted to defend that suggestion as he selfishly wanted to bring chenle back because being alone was something he could never handle; their last fight really did prove that.
"kai...can you...stay here for some more time...?" words struggled to come out of jisung's mouth as he longingly looked at heuningkai. "i..don't want to stay alone...i just can't..."
"of course, i actually came here because i wanted to study with you, the final exams are coming soon and you sounded really clueless about it," heuningkai chuckled.
"wait, when exactly are the final exams?! and how the fuck didn't i know about that?!" jisung jumped out of the couch in disbelief.
"calm down already, it happened one day when you took the day off just so you could fuck him," heuningkai said nonchalantly. "it's alright though, there's enough time for that, a week to be exact."
"come on, kai, i'm not that big of a slacker..." jisung defended himself, glad that a few burdens were gotten rid of. "i just happened to spend...some time...with him...that's all..."
"well, you should have known," heuningkai stated. "anyways, can we start revising? i have no clue if i'm going to pass or not, since physics is a fucking pain in the ass."
"i guess..." jisung replied, unsure. "i hope that will be a good enough distraction..."
