a painfully long fortnight passed by and it felt like nothing had changed.
chenle glanced at jisung, who was still in the same unconscious state as before. the older darted his eyes to random places in the seemingly empty room, his expression lifeless and devoid of any hope.
nonchalantly lulling his son to sleep, he felt like everything was starting to fall apart at the seams. and he blamed no one other than himself for making such a stupid decision as he felt like he should not have meddled with jisung's life in the first place.
chenle felt the loneliness eating up his sanity as he let out a sigh, not having the energy to tear up and break down anymore. apparently, he had told jaemin that he could take care of himself and there was no need to waste anyone's time any longer because he will be staying with jisung. jaemin was indeed sceptic; the fact that renjun was there when he made such a decision did not help either as they only agreed after hours and hours of begging.
it was his selfish way of being with jisung alone and also as a small punishment for what he did to his ex-boyfriend.
chenle stood up and walked over to the small bed near jisung's, keeping their napping child on the fluffy mattress. without a single change in his expression, he sat near jisung, sighing as he waited not-so-patiently for something he believed would not even happen.
yet he kept on hoping.
his shivering hand met jisung's own lifeless ones, slowly grasping in a gentle grip, praying desperately that he would come back, healthy as ever. but he could not help but think of the worst case scenarios too, slowly killing him on the inside.
what if...jisung could not come back like chenle yearned for?
that question plagued his mind.
chenle clenched his fists as he pondered the one thought that was carving on his sanity. it would feel like the weight of the whole world was crashing down on his frame, to the point where he would not able to fathom suffering through any longer.
he would also take the same path as the love of his life, leaving behind everything in this cruel, unforgiving world.
a knock on the door caught his attention.
chenle was jolted out of his thoughts rather harshly at the sudden sound, walking towards the wood and swinging the wood open weakly, only to reveal someone whom he had not seen in months— donghyuck.
donghyuck was smiling figuratively brighter than the sun, holding a box of cupcakes as he awkwardly cleared his throat on why the hell he was there at such a poignant hour. "it's been a long time, isn't it, chenle?" he spoke up.
"hyuck...? why are you here?" chenle raised an eyebrow, not from suspicion, but rather from pure curiosity.
"well, i...heard about...the whole thing that happened...and i just...wanted to give you this," donghyuck started awkwardly, still having trouble gathering words to speak. "no harsh feelings...please...i just...don't want you to feel bad..." without anymore words, he handed over the box to him. "h-here...have this. don't go without having anything."
"t-that's...thank you..." chenle beamed at the older whose smile grew even brighter, which suddenly changed into a frown of concern as he noticed the younger. "how...is jisung...?" he asked, to which chenle could only let out a sigh and nod a clear no.
"so, i-i'll...be going, just take care of yourself...okay? i had noticed you near the college dorms...and you're really sad and shit. just...have hope alright?" donghyuck spoke out before heading out the door and waving a farewell.
