jisung opened the door to the apartment to see a napping chenle, along with his daughter in his arms. the two looked peacefully oblivious to anything as shrek was playing non-stop on the television, feebly snoring like little rabbits.
he could not help but coo at the adorable sight in front of him, approaching them carefully so as to not wake either of the two up. he carefully slipped his hands underneath his daughter's frame and picked her up, but to his dismay, the two of them were a bit too comfortable with each other's presence, and hence, woke the two up.
bae groaned as she whined in her father's hands, wanting so badly to go back to her previous state. "i want to be with mom..." she rambled about as her voice started to break, almost about to cry and start a tantrum.
chenle, on the other hand, shifted quite uncomfortably as he reluctantly opened his eyes, rubbing them off of any residual sleep. he looked up to see jisung smiling at him with an awkward yet remorseful expression, while bae was in his arms, squirming around, still rambling about on how she wants to cuddle with her mom.
"sorry for that...bae's just throwing a little tantrum, nothing else..." jisung spoke out awkwardly, whilst trying to calm the child in his arms. "i don't get why she's calling you her mom though..."
"it's alright, hyung..." chenle beamed at him wholesomely, unfazed by the awkwardness the older was feeling. "bae was kinda emotional because i sounded a lot like wookjin-hyung, i guess he's just really charismatic..."
"he really is..." jisung sighed as he drooped his head down, tears glistening his eyes. he spared a quick glance at his daughter who gave up squirming halfway into the conversation, and was pouting at him like she was irritated. "you want to cuddle with aunt lele again?" he asked her, to which she vigorously nodded in the affirmative.
"i hope she's not being too mischievous..." jisung looked up to chenle, handing over his daughter ever-so-carefully. with utmost care, chenle pulled bae into his lap, resuming their previously interrupted cuddle session. jisung then glanced at bae, instructing her with loving words. "now, bae, don't cause too much trouble, okay...? daddy's got to make lunch."
bae hummed in response and nodded in the affirmative as jisung walked inside the kitchen, heaving a sigh of relief.

"ugh, who the hell is awake at fucking 5 in the morning, i'm going to-"
jaemin was out of words as he opened the door, revealing a very dishevelled jisung, who looked like he had never seen a single bit of food in days. his expression was a subtly terrifying frown, his eyes were red from crying all day, but thankfully, his arms had signs of healed scars, meaning he had not done anything self-deprecating.
"sungie...? what are you doing in here?" jaemin trailed off as he raised an eyebrow suspiciously at the younger, yet worried about his condition.
"h-hyung...i want to leave," jisung spoke out in a voice so feeble that jaemin could barely hear it. "i can't stand this anymore...it's hurting me so fucking much. i just...can't...i can't get my mind off of him..."
that was more than enough for jaemin to activate his panic mode, pulling jisung into his dorms and grabbing his hand albeit firmly, not wanting to let go. "n-no! you can't just...throw your goddamn life away just because of a break in your relationship. look at yourself, sungie! there's so much more to live for..."
"h-hyung..." jisung spoke out once again with the same feeble voice. "i-it's not what you think...i was thinking of dropping out..."
"oh..." jaemin trailed off as he realized just how dumb he sounded in front of the younger. regretting the fact that he did not have his daily insane coffee intake, he started to query more questions. "but still, why though...? isn't it your dream to graduate college with merit...?"
"that dream's long gone...hyung..." jisung deadpanned hopelessly, reluctant to explain anything. "i...just want to give up and get a job or something...please...help me for this..."
jaemin fell silent as he was lost in thought. "if you...really want to...i'll help you find a job. but... think about it, is it really worth it...?"
"no, hyung, i made my decision. i don't want to pursue college anymore," jisung cut him off, not even a single stutter in his voice. "i'll be fine...i just don't want him to linger in my mind anymore."
🍂
it was almost time for lunch as jisung had been preparing a meal for almost a whole hour. what he expected was to have a peaceful meal along with their neighbour...until he heard a news that almost gave him a feeling of déjà vu.
"daddy! daddy! aunt's been vomiting for so long!"
bae's panicking voice along with precedent sounds of retching were heard nearby, much to jisung's dismay. he rushed to his daughter, only to see her almost in tears, while chenle was nowhere to be seen, although noises can be heard elsewhere.
a few gruelling minutes later, chenle stumbled into the drawing room, falling on to jisung's arms as he did. even though jisung almost wobbled in his stance, he firmly held chenle in his arms, who was on the brink of blacking out.
and jisung thought too soon, as all what could chenle see was his surroundings blurring into an oblivious syncope as his eyes as well as his whole body shut down.
"will he be alright, daddy?! i don't want aunt to die..."
"he will be, but right now, bring daddy the car keys. we have to bring him to the hospital."
