tw // semi-detailed descriptions of self-harm

"so, class, i'll be giving out the results of the previous exam, and i must say, not that many of you had done a great job in it. i don't think my expectations will be higher next time..."

after all the suffering and all-nighters he had to pull to power through the said exam, jisung was very excited yet terrified to see his results were. his best friend heuningkai, had a similar expression, although he was more terrified as he did not spend half as much time than jisung did.

mr kang started to wordlessly distribute the papers to each and every student out there, until gradually, he reached the two who were anticipating their result. heuningkai grabbed the paper first, and he was relieved to say the least, as he got a 70 out of 100— not bad for someone who despises math + went on a road trip.

when jisung got his result however, his heart sank. he looked hopelessly to the paper and saw he scored only half of what his best friend had scored, despite working so hard to learn almost everything he could. tears threatened to come out of his eyes as he struggled to hold the paper in his hands.

"come on, ji, it's not that bad..." heuningkai spoke out reassuringly. "it's just one test, right? there are more to come and i'm sure you'll get better marks then..."

jisung fell silent as he drooped his head down in defeat, not ready to accept his words. all he wanted was to get better at his studies so that he'll graduate college to get a good mainstream job, was it that too much to ask? all he ended up was in the throes of failure; if he failed to reach a decent score in the first examination, how the hell is he supposed to score more in the coming ones?

"it's over, kai, i can't do this anymore," he breathed out, his voice coarse and broken.

"no don't sell yourself short, ji! there's more than enough opportunities, and just because you got one bad score in an exam, doesn't mean shit!" heuningkai said firmly, not wanting to see his best friend suffer because of this. "please, just listen-"

"i don't want to hear more of this," jisung snapped as he let out a sigh. he took his bag, threw the papers in carelessly, and swung it around his shoulder as he stood up. "i need a break from all this shit..."

the classes ended and almost immediately, jisung walked out the door, his emotions bubbling with self-hatred. heuningkai, on the other hand, had a premonition that something will go horribly wrong, so he decided to notify the one person he knew that will help jisung out— chenle.

he took out his phone as he tried to call him, worry coursing through his body. he responded, his voice tired and confused. "kai? what is it...?" chenle spoke out.

"chenle-hyung, there's a problem. jisung just left the class and he's really heartbroken because he didn't score well," heuningkai stated. "i don't know who else to call...and i guess you're the only one who can help."

the line went silent for a few seconds as chenle let all the information sink in. "alright, i'll take care of him. bitch should have known that he didn't have to kill himself with studies."

jisung opened the door to see chenle looking worriedly at him, who then reached out to pull him into a hug. he tried to pull himself out, but the older's grip on him was stronger than before. "what happened, ji...? you really don't sound alright..." chenle spoke out, hiding the fact that he did know what happened.

"it's nothing, don't worry, lele..." jisung trailed off as he drooped his head down in defeat. "i just need some time alone. nothing else."
