As soon as I stepped foot off that plane in Los Angeles, I was on a mission to get my career started. I didn't have the slightest clue how to do it, so I went where everyone goes when they come to LA. Hollywood! I figured I'd run into some big-time producer or hell even maybe an artist or two and they'd hear my songs and sign me to a multimillion-dollar deal. I was sadly mistaken the only thing I got was hollered at by some random guys, an offer to work at this weird sex store that I passed by one day, and multiple flyers to random shit people were having that was of no interest to me. None of it was going to help me achieve my dream of becoming a song writer, so I had to change up my approach. I pulled out the yellow pages and looked for all the record companies in the greater Los Angeles area, if I couldn't find the people walking the street, I'd go directly to their doorstep and show them I am the next big thing.

"Welcome to Tower Records how can I help you? Hi, I am looking for... For the woman said. I am a song writer and I wanted to someone to listen to my songs. Hear your songs, sweetie that's not how it works. Ok well how does it work; I am willing to do anything. No sweetie never say that, especially not in this town. You follow the protocol and that's to formally submit a tape of you singing your song. I have to sing my own songs. How else are they supposed to hear them? I figured I'd just submit them, and someone would pick them up. It doesn't work that way, you submit the songs via cassette tape, if they like them, they will contact you and your team to set up a deal for the song. And if I don't have a tape? You should always have tapes, especially if you shopping a deal. Ok I need tapes how do I get those made. Sweetie, I can't tell you everything it's not what they pay me to do. If you are serious about getting your music heard, you should start out at the open mic nights on Sunset, a lot of A&R people hangout there. In terms of your tapes, you have to get with someone who can help you record it, she said handing me a business card. Thank you! No problem, there is also a billboard down the hall with open mic night listings."

I nodded to her before going down the hall to the billboard. Even though it wasn't what I wanted to hear she at least gave me some starting points. I needed to get my songs recorded and get on the list at one of these open mic nights. I had no clue what an open mic night is, it's not something that we hear in Clearwater. We barely had clubs much less places where people go to sing music. I stood at the board looking at all the flyers trying to figure out what to do. There were so many options, and I was lost in my decision of which ones to choose.

"Those open mic nights never work out! Huh I said turning towards the voice. The open mic night never work out, there is always a line and when you finally do get up there you only get like 2 minutes. Oh really. Yeah, I've been doing the open mic circuit for a while. Wow really the receptionist told me that this is where I need to start. She's not too far off, but it's not open mics you should go to, the big level people are at the clubs. The clubs huh! Yup, I was at a club last weekend, and I ran into Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. Whitney Houston! Mhm trust me just go to one of these clubs and I guarantee that will get you further than these little open mic nights. Which clubs should I go to? Any of the ones in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, you name it, there are always celebrities there. Thanks! No problem they said walking away."

I looked at the board for a few more moments before seeing a flyer for this new club opening and they were hiring waitresses. I know I ain't want to waitress but hell I needed money to and who knows how much it was gonna cost to get in the studio and record these songs. I grabbed the flyer and a couple of others before making my way back out the building it was only 11:30, and the girls were busy looking for jobs. Well scratch that Lorena was looking for a job, Misty has one working with her cousin at some company in Santa Monica. So that left me to my own devices during the day. I could literally travel the entire city and see all the different sites and people; it gave me inspiration for days. And I actually have written quite a few things just being around. Instead of wondering around till Lorena paged me I decided to go to a local music store and browse around for a little bit. Music stores are great to kill time because I get lost in all of the genres and I can practically listen to an entire album without having to buy it. I browsed for a bit before settling into a listening booth and popping in a classic Donna Summer. Listening to Donna Summer took me back to my childhood, back before things with my mother went left.
