Mommy, when do you think, you are going to move home? Huh I said looking back at her. When are you going to move back home? It was so strange that she said it like that as if she'd been discussing it with someone for a while. I truly did miss my baby, lord knows I did and truthfully, I could have already come home but money isn't forever and once it is gone, it's gone and you're back at square one. So, until I have a good amount of it saved to take care of my family, I'm keeping my day job in Vegas, and I'll continue flying back and forth. Why are you asking that baby? I was asking because granny is tired and sometimes, she forgets stuff. She forgets stuff I said as we pulled up in the driveway. Mhmm one day she forgot to turn off the stove. Titi Angel yelled at her because she almost burned herself. That's not nice for Titi Angel to yell at grandma. It's not and then she made her cry. Don't worry baby, I'll talk to Titi Angel about yelling at grandma. Ok she said, smiling a little as I helped her out the car and into the house. I had no clue how much stuff was going on here at home. I mean for the better part of a year I've been coming back and forth every week or every other week to maintain balance and to make sure that I help out.
This visit was different though, I'd be out here for a full two weeks to handle business for my baby, give my mom a break, and to meet with lawyers to discuss starting my business and getting my personal affairs in order. I know you are thinking why you thinking about getting your personal affairs in order you aren't dying or sick. But that's the thing, time is short, and you never know when your day is coming. I learned the hard way dealing with the death of Angel's father and not receiving any support from his family that it was imperative that I made sure if something happens to me that my daughter is taken care of. In addition to that I also wanted to discuss my business idea. I'd always wanted to start a business I just didn't know what kind of business. I worked at the plant making clothes for a long time and I learned a lot about the manufacturing industry. If people only knew what went on in those plants, they'd think twice about the treatment of immigrants in this country line. My clothing would be different though, I wanted to do more customized high-end clothing. One-of-a-kind pieces that you would be able to get just anywhere. My mom had taught me how to sew when I was little, so I knew how to do custom clothing and I did a pretty good job at it too for a while until life's demands presented themselves and well now I don't get to do it as much as I used to.
Hey Mama! Hey how are my babies doing? We're doing good, I took her to the dentist no cavities in that little mouth. Praise god because Angel is always giving her something sweet. Speaking of where is Angel? She's somewhere I don't know she has too much attitude for me. Hasn't she always I said sitting next to her. That's your father's fault, but I digress on that because I won't talk ill of the dead. Mama, my father isn't dead. He is to me when he left me with you kids to raise while he moved on to the next b.... the next woman. Ok Mama, I'll let it go, how are you doing? I am doing fine Shelley. Are you sure, Siyahira said that Angel yelled at you for forgetting the stove was on? It wasn't the fact that I forgot that the oven was on it was because she didn't know it was on and burned her hand. And I didn't forget I was preheating it and had gone to go take a quick shower while it was heating up. Hmm I said wondering if that was the truth, Siyahira doesn't have a reason to lie so there may be some truth in what she was saying. I was just concerned about you mama. Don't worry about me, I am fine. But we do need to talk about something important. Ok I said taking a seat next to her. Siyahira's other family. Other family she doesn't have any other family, we're her family. Shelley! Nope I don't want to hear it mama, them people called me everything but a child of God and basically spit on me during the worst time of my life. They have no claims to my baby or anything that she may have. Apparently, his mother has had a change of heart she said handing me a letter. What's this? She's petitioning for joint custody of Siyahira. The hell she is, she don't even know her... how the hell did she find out her name? I don't know, I just got this letter a few days ago she said handing me the letter. I looked at the letter and shook my head. I already met with my attorney and were fighting this. Damn right we are, they have never seen or sent a piece of clothing for that little girl and all of the sudden they want custody of her. It's not happening, her father didn't even want them around her I whispered. Why! Huh! Why didn't he want his family around her? He just didn't, I said folding the letter up.
