After a few rounds of 'Guitar Hero', Jenna decides to wrap up the barbecue, due to having a few too many drinks. As Rae and I made it to the front door, I speak. "No takers for more drinks at the Grill?" I ask, seeing Ric and Jenna smile in amusement. "It's like I'm with a bunch of adults here." I say, chuckling. "I prefer the term role model." Jenna says with a smirk of her own. "Besides, the last thing anyone needs now is more drinks." Rae teases me. I sigh dramatically and chuckle. "Fiine.." I say, dragging the word out. Rae laughs quietly, before nudging my arm. "C'mon Old Man, let's head home." Rae says. I chuckle and nod. "Okay, well, thanks for having me. It was awesome." I say, giving Jenna a hug, before turning to Alaric, holding my hand out. "Alaric, catch the game next week?" I ask. Alaric smiles and nods, shaking my hand. "Yeah, look forward to it." He says. "Alright, sounds good." I say, before noticing Damon walking towards everyone. "Hey, you know, I should probably head out too.." Damon says. I nod at him, before throwing my arm over Rae's shoulders, leading her outside, and closing the door behind us.
As we headed to the truck, I decide to listen in to what was being said inside. I need to know if there's any danger to Rae...Tyler should be fine since he isn't a Werewolf.. "Jenna, you are a wonderful hostess." I hear Damon say. "And you are a terrible artist." Jenna counters. "Is that the only thing that makes me terrible?" He asks. "Still deciding." She says. "Good enough for me." He replies. Everything seems alright, but...I can't shake this feeling.. Just as I think that, Damon speaks again. "Alaric." He says. "Let's Not catch that game next week.." Hearing this, I stop in my tracks immediately. I knew it.. Rae notices I stopped and looks towards me. "Uncle Mason..?" She asks confused. Hearing her voice, I snap out of it, plaster a smile on my face, and look to her. "Sorry Kiddo, thought I forgot my keys.." I say, before digging into my pocket, and taking them out. "Right here. C'mon, let's get you home." I say, before leading her away. I can't let her find out.. With that final thought, I open the door to the truck for her and she climbs in. Chuckling to myself, I close the door behind her, and head to the driver's seat. Soon, we drive off.
A few minutes later..
He'll come for me first, because he knows I'll get in the way if he doesn't. I put the truck in park, before looking to Rae. "Alright Kiddo, you head on inside, I've got a few errands to run first." I say. Hearing this, she raises a brow. "Can't I come with you?" She asks, still clueless. I smirk and chuckle. "You've got bags under your eyes, which means you didn't get much sleep earlier. Go get some real sleep. I'll be fine, we called a truce, remember?" I ask. She sighs and nods. "Yeah, right. A truce with a Vampire.." she says. I chuckle at her tone. "It'll be fine. Go get some sleep, I'll be back in 10 minutes, I promise." I say. She looks at me suspiciously, but is unable to find anything, due to my hiding it. Seeing there's nothing, she sighs in defeat. "Fine. I'm too tired to argue anyways. Just...promise you'll be careful..?" She asks. I smile and nod. "I promise I'll come back." I say. Hearing this, she nods, and leaves. Once I see she's safely inside, my smile turns to a frown, and I sigh, before driving away.
