Mason's P.O.V.
As I struggle to come up with a way of dealing with the circumstances Rae and I are in, I notice Sheriff Forbes as I make it to one of the picnic tables. I didn't want to bring The Council into this but...maybe she can help.. As I think this, Sheriff Forbes looks in my direction. "Oh, thanks Mason." She says, seeing me place the box down. "Hey Sheriff, you got a minute?" I ask. She smiles. "I'm out of uniform, let's go with Liz. If you're looking for Rae, she's probably hiding away in that gazeebo over there. Last I saw her, she was holding a bucket of paint, walking in that direction." She says, pointing to the right. I chuckle. "Alright, Liz, and no, not this time." I say, before getting closer so I could be quiet. "I was hoping to talk to you about The Council.." I say, barely above a whisper. Hearing this, she looks me up and down. "I don't know what you're talking about." She says. Just as I thought.. "I know you and the other Founding Families have a secret council." I say, just as quiet. She sighs. "If that were true, you'd know it's a secret and isn't discussed with Non-Council members." She replies, giving me the eye. I sigh and nod. "Look, I know Rae and I rejected all that, but it's because we wanted a life outside of this town. Not because we're non-believers." I say. Hearing this, she sighs, and looks to me.
Seeing I finally had her attention, I speak. "Look, Rae and I know Vampires exist. Which is why we felt we should tell you.." I say, checking my surroundings to make sure it was safe to speak. Not seeing anything, I continue. "You have two of them living right under your nose." I say. Hearing this, she looks at me. "Really?" She asks, unconvinced. "Yeah." I say. "And who might they be?" She asks. "Damon and Stefan Salvatore." I say. She seems taken back by this, but quickly recovers. "That's impossible. I know Damon. Do you know what he's done for this town?" She asks. I nod my head. "Look, I know it's alot to digest.." I trail off when she shakes her head. "No, no, no. I have watched him kill Vampires. He's an ally, he's part of the council." She says, still not believing it. "Think about it. When did the Vampire attacks begin? When Damon and Stefan moved to town?" I ask. She shakes her head, although clearly shaken a bit. She must be realizing it too. So I was right. "They walk in the sun, Mason." She says. "They've evolved. It's not 1864. They've figured it out, Liz." I say. She's quiet for a few minutes, clearly thinking about it, but quickly shakes her head in denial again. "No. Damon Salvatore is my friend." She says. I lower my head with a sigh, before I notice Damon and Stefan walking a few yards away, still unknowing of our presence. Looks like she'll need proof...if I prove it to her, without bringing Rae into this...then the consequences will only fall on me, if it backfires. Rae and Tyler should still be safe.. "What if I can prove it to you?" I ask her, catching her attention. Seeing she looked at me, I nod my head towards the two brothers. She slowly looks towards them, doubt clear on her face.
A few minutes later..
Once I convinced Liz to allow me to prove it, I head towards the gazeebo. Walking inside, I see Rae doing just as Liz thought. The bucket of paint sat next to her, the paintbrush still clean, as she played on her phone. Chuckling to myself, I head over to her. "Y'know, last I checked, you're supposed to be repainting the gazeebo." I say, startling her. Jumping in surprise, she quickly looks towards me, before sighing in relief. "Oh, it's just you." She says, relaxing. "Yep, just me." I say, before sitting next to her and the bucket of paint. "So...did you have a nice chat with The Vamp?" She asks. I chuckle and nod. "Yeah, he just wanted to see if we needed help with unloading the truck, as a sign of good faith, y'know?" I ask. She nods and purses her lips. "Rright~...allies.." she says unconvinced. I chuckle and nudge her. "Aw, c'mon kiddo, don't you trust me? Show a little faith in your favorite uncle, will ya?" I tease her. "Okay one; you're my only Uncle; and two; I do trust you; hands down, without a doubt. It's THEM I don't trust. It's just something about the whole friendly neighborhood Vampire besties thing, I dont know, it just doesn't sit right." She says. I nod my head silently.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again. She can smell trouble a mile away...but I have to be convincing, if this is going to work. "Look kiddo, I'm not asking you and The Salvatores to braid eachother's hair. You don't have to even speak to them if you don't want to. Hell, the further away you are from them, the better. Not because they can't be trusted, but because of The Council. If worse comes to worse, and they find out about The Salvatores, anyone close to them, will be investigated as well." I say. There's so many things that can go wrong, so many risks that have to be taken, but I can't think of any other way. Hearing this, she nods her head. "Avoid the bloodsuckers as much as possible...that I can do." She says. I chuckle and rub her head.
"That's my girl." I tease her, earning an annoyed growl, and a swat to my hand, like always. "So, now that we've gotten that situated, the Sheriff's asked me to help her with one of the programs today, so I'm gonna be pretty busy. Since you're not a fan of the millions of events they throw, do you think you can keep an eye on Tyler for me? I know how invested you are in painting this gazeebo, but.." I trail off, seeing her already standing. "Deal. He said he'd be at The Mystic Grill, right?" She asks. I smirk and stand. "Aren't you worried he'll interrogate you about the stone again?" I ask. She smirks back. "He can't interrogate me if I don't let him know I'm there, right?" She asks. Chuckling to myself, I nod. "Alright, suit yourself. I'll message you when I can, deal?" I ask, holding out my hand. She places her hand in mine, and nods. "Me too. Deal." She says, before making her way towards town. I keep watching until she's out of sight, once she's gone, I sigh in relief. Now that I know she's safely out of the way of what goes down, I can focus on coming up with a plan.
