The next day..
I slowly walk downstairs, only to stop once Tyler and mom walk out of the other room. Tyler's about to head for the stairs, but the moment he sees me standing there, he shoots a glare towards me, before turning, and leaving the house. Mom sees this exchange and furrows her brows. Seeing Tyler leave, I remember the fight last night, and sigh, averting my gaze as the anger from last night returns. "Rae, honey, what was that about..?" Mom asks. Sighing, I shake my head, and walk past her. "Nothing." I say curtly. "That didn't look like nothing, are you two fighting again?" She asks. "Mom, really, it's nothing." I say, trying to end the conversation, however mom has other ideas. "That wasn't 'nothing', I'm your mother, I would know!" She says, pestering me. "Mom, seriously, just leave it alone.." I say, getting irritated. "I would, but it seems ever since you two reunited, it's been nothing but fight after fight." She says. "Jesus, mom, we're siblings. Siblings fight. I'm handling it, so back off!" I say, finally snapping at her.
She flinches at my tone. "I just want to help.." she trails off quietly. "Well you can't! No one can! I screwed up, alright?! Nothing you say or do will help this time, so let it go!" I snap at her, before flinching myself. Dammit...why am I taking it out on mom..?! She didn't do anything! Rae, you idiot..! I sigh in defeat, placing a hand to my forehead, closing my eyes. "Look, Mom, I'm sorry I snapped at you...I-I don't mean to take it out on you. I don't want to take it out on you, so please, just...leave it be...okay? You getting involved would only make things worse, trust me on this, alright..?" I ask, placing my hands on her shoulders gently, before kissing her cheek. "I'm gonna go...try to have a good day...I'll see you when I get back.." is all I say, before leaving.
A few minutes later..
As I'm walking down the sidewalk, towards town, I hear a door open, catching my attention. Looking to my left, I see an unfamiliar, yet sort of familiar Blonde guy walking out of a house nearby. Elena stood in the doorway of the house, glaring at the man's back. I stop and furrow my brows at Elena's reaction, along with trying to understand who that guy was. That's...not Klaus...is it..? Elijah didn't mention anything, so it can't be him, right..? So...why's Elena acting like that..? As I try to figure things out, Elena seems to sense me staring, and looks in my direction, with a puzzled expression. "Rae..?" She calls out. Hearing Elena speak, the blonde guy stops, and look towards me. "Elena, who's this..? Friend of yours..?" He asks, walking back towards Elena. "Uh...well.." Elena trails off, unsure how to respond.
Seeing the uneasy look she gave, while looking between us, I furrow my brows. Why's she so on edge..? I look the guy up and down a few times. Something doesn't seem right. He doesn't seem like the friendly sort...seems more like a threat than anything else.. "Elena..?" I ask, trying to see if she's alright, but unsure whether to ask outright or not while the guy is present. Not like it's any of my business anyway, but if this guys a threat to us, I need to know about it.. "Uh...John, this is Rae. She's um...helped me a few times in the past, with.." Elena trails off, unsure whether to say more. Picking up on the tense atmosphere, along with noticing how the guy seemed to be analyzing me for something, I speak. "...volunteer work with the Masquerade ball we had a few days ago." I finish the sentence for her. "Y-Yeah. Mayor Lockwood had asked us to help set up." She adds. The guy, now known as 'John' nods his head thoughtfully. "I see.." he says.
Elena gives me a look of warning, almost like she was saying I shouldn't be around this guy. Clearing my throat, I speak. "Well, uh, I've gotta run, so...enjoy your day.." I say, starting to leave. "Right, you too." John says 'casually'. I give an awkward wave. "Uh, thanks...Elena, talk later..?" I ask. Hearing her name, Elena nods. "Yeah." Elena says. Hearing this, I nod, and leave, wanting to get out of that tense situation as soon as possible. Let's hope that John guy isn't yet another threat I have to add to the list, or pretty soon, I'll run out of space before I can write 'em all down.. With that thought, I keep walking.
Damon's P.O.V.
"You brought back John Gilbert? That was your big 'save Elena' move?" I ask in disbelief. "I went to look for Isobel and got John instead. He said he could help us and we're desperate." Stefan says. "We're not That desperate, Stefan. The guy tried to barbecue me!" I say, reminded of when Mayor Lockwood and I were trapped in the burning building in the past, after they had used the Vampire Hunter Device to contain us. Stefan sighs. "Damon, Bonnie's Witch friend is working with Elijah, so we have to assume the Moonstone was never destroyed. Elena, is putting all of her faith into some deal that she made with Elijah, to keep everyone safe. I mean, do you trust Elijah? I don't trust him. He's an Original. He can't be trusted." He says with a shrug. "It's not like we could go and kill him, because apparently he can't die." He adds. I roll my eyes. "I'm still waiting for the part where John's the answer." I say, crossing my arms.
He sighs. "Look, he knew about the sacrifice. Isobel told him. He said he knew of a way to keep Elena safe." He explains. I urge him on. "And how do we do that?" I ask. "He's not talking. At least not to me, anyway." He says. I sigh and scoff. "Right. Great work, Stefan, topnotch. Anything else you wanna tell me?" I ask annoyed. He sighs, and averts his gaze, nodding his head. "There is...one more thing.." he says. "Of course there is...what?" I ask. "If what Elena says is true...then Rae's also going to be in on the deal soon, if she isn't already.." he says. Hearing this, I laugh humorlessly. "Oh, this whole deal thing just keeps getting better and better...as if I didn't have enough problems.." I say, before walking away.
