I can't believe people are actually reading this book 😂 like I was expecting no one to notice it but here we are 😄 thanks for reading guys

Even though the Woods were scary, Adora managed to come out of it feeling better than before. She and Glimmer were both laughing by the end of the night, making everything seem okay.

But as soon as they got home, she stopped feeling good.

Mom was home, and she was waiting for them. She was at the door when they entered, arms crossed. "Well? Where were you?"

"We went for a walk." Glimmer shoved her hands into her pockets, and slowly walked up the entrance. "We needed some fresh air."

"Where did you go?"

"Uh, to a place." Adora tried to smile, but it felt too fake. The room was so hot-how did it get that warm so fast? One second, the entrance was chilly, and the next, Adora was taking off her coat. "A place with things and stuff and-"

"Adora." Angela held her hand up, glaring, and Adora lost her nerve. "Where did you go?" She brushed a stray leaf off Glimmer's jacket and sighed. "Tell me you didn't go to the woods in the middle of the night."

"It isn't the middle of the night-"

"Glimmer!"

"Fine." Glimmer stepped back, shielding her mother from removing more leaves from her jacket. She crossed her arms, glaring. "We went. But I can handle myself. I'm not a child."

"I didn't know where you were," Angela said, her voice quiet. "If you got hurt, I couldn't come and get you. Next time, tell me where you're going."

"Will do." Adora couldn't meet her eyes.

"Oh, come on. She wouldn't have let us leave."

"There's a reason for that." She narrowed her eyes. "I know you want to have fun, but there's a way to do that without getting into trouble."

"Nothing happened."

Angela groaned. "I'm trying to be reasonable here, but you need to compromise."

"I'm sorry," Adora said. "It was-"

"Adora stop. Fuck apologizing." Glimmer's jaw tightened slightly. "Adora had a bad date, so I wanted to cheer her up."

She settled her gaze on Adora, who smiled sheepishly. Angela raised an eyebrow. Her voice sounded strained, and Adora honestly had to resist the urge to apologize again. Angela said, "I see. Why couldn't you cheer her up at home?"

"Fine, I'm a terrible sister. Happy?"

"That's not what I mean." She placed a hand on her face, tensing up. "I need you to be responsible. You were in a dark forest. What if you got lost?"

"I know how to navigate-"

"But can you do it when it's pitch black?" Angela tried to make her voice sound neutural, but Adora could hear the strain. " When it's cold out, and you won't have great service or anywhere to charge your phone? I'm not trying to be a helicopter parent here. What you did was irresponsible, and I need you to understand that."

"It wasn't her fau-"

"You don't trust-"

"That's it. You're grounded."

"Mom!"

"This is not up for discussion. Go to your room." She paused. "Adora, stay back a minute."

Glimmer and Adora both startled, but Adora gestured for Glimmer to go. After a moment, she did.

After Glimmer left, Adora stood up a little straighter. Angela was studying her closely, her expression unreadable. Adora hesitated before asking, "what do you...need?"
