Heyyyyyy
We're almost done the story, so strap in and enjoy!!!
"Christine!" A voice called from the back, reminding Adora where they were. She leaned back in her leather seat, breathing in the smell of coffee and tea.
Yep, there was nothing quite like Starbucks.
Except, like, maybe some other coffee shop. Like Tim Hortons, or Peet's Coffee, or whatever. But Starbucks was where they were, and where they liked to drink coffee. It felt familiar, probably because all Starbucks had similar décor and furniture. Well, that and there was something about the mermaid on every plastic cup that reminded Adora of all the times they got coffee back home.
There was a nostalgic weight to Starbucks. Not as big a weight as like, laser tag, maybe, but still significant.
Adora was so absorbed in her thoughts, she lost track of the conversation. It took a minute for her gaze to wander back to Glimmer and Bow, who were cuddling on their side of the booth. Though they were turned towards Adora, Bow's attention was on Glimmer.
"Come on..." Bow nudged Glimmer's shoulder. "Glimmer, you have off days where you don't feel like you can sing, right?"
"Yeah, yeah totally. Just not...often."
"Guys, I'm fine." Adora shook her head. Apparently, while drunk, Adora had said too much about her insecurities about her voice. Now, they wouldn't stop talking about it. "I'm not into singing."
"But you're good," Bow said, fidgeting with a stray napkin. "Really good. So you shouldn't listen to her. Or yourself, really. My band teacher always says that you shouldn't listen to yourself sing, because you hear something different than your audience."
Adora wrinkled her nose. "How do you not hear yourself while you sing?"
"Uh...you just don't." He shook his head. "It's hard to describe. You just...learn not to pay attention to how you sound, instead how it feels-agh, you probably don't care."
"No, I just don't see the point."
"Everyone thinks they suck at singing." Bow shook his head. "You always think you suck, right, Glimmer?"
"Uh, no." Glimmer frowned. "Not always. But he's right. There are some days I hear my voice and it's so off."
"For me, that's everyday," Adora said. "So I don't think so."
"You don't have to," Bow said. "But we heard you, and we think you look great. So if you ever want to, you know we won't judge you, right?" He frowned. "I mean, after all, you've heard me sing, right?"
Adora laughed, leaning back in her leather seat. "Okay, fine. You got me there."
"Barrett!"
Glimmer looked back at the customer getting his drinks, then checked her phone. She tsked. "We've been here longer than him. What's taking so long?"
"I don't know." Adora ran a hand through her ponytail. "Maybe there's a big order, or-"
"Weaver."
Adora flinched.
Weaver.
In her peripheral, Glimmer and Bow gave her a weird look. But she could only shake her head, unsure what she could say to make them understand without betraying Catra's secret.
Her insides went cold. She was probably being paranoid, but still, she couldn't help but glance over, just to see. A woman was at the counter, long hair flowing to her hips. She hugged her to go back to her chest, and she turned to face them as she grabbed her seat.
