The chill of the cool evening air as you leaned against the hood of your car. Your arms were cross against your chest, the thin clothed jacket not keeping you warm like you expected. Your eyes scanned around the dimly lot parking lot of Gerald's Grocery story, looking to see if you could pinpoint Reggie's car pulling up. Your eyes shot to the far left as a car pulled in, the familiar shape of the headlights gave you the confirmation. You exhaled softly before getting up off your car to stand up while his car pulled of in front of yours. The car turned off, headlights falling asleep, drivers door opening to emerge Reggie. A small smile plastered on his face, so quick it almost looked fake."There's my favorite best friend." He chimed closing his door walking around to meet you in front of his bumper. "Are you okay?" He asked instantly noticing your off demeanor. Your breathe hitched causing you to hesitate to speak, your warm breathe mixing with the freezing air creating a steam every exhale.
"Please tell me it isn't true." It was all you could say, all you could manage to get out at that moment. He looked at you furrowing his brows confused.
"That what isn't true?" He asked adjusting his stance, looking at you. "I'm not sure I know what you're talking about, n/n"
"Don't play stupid with me." You spat quickly your eyes scanning his face. "I have known you for years Reggie. I know when you lie, when you hide something, when you do some things. But this, I absolutely cannot fathom why you'd do this. And not just in general but do this to me? I'm your fucking best friend. Your my best friend, my fucking family. How long has this been going on?" You asked doing everything in your power to keep yourself from losing control. "Answer me damn it.", A shrug from Reggie was enough of an answer for you.
"I genuinely don't know why Shepard thought sending you to assist task force 141 was a good idea. What a careless old man. But the money we're making, f/n. It would have set us for life." He spoke clearing his throat, now crossing his arms. "Thought sending 141 on aimless tasks to destroy missiles that Las Alma's and The Russian military bought just so they'd buy more. You know I really thought we'd pulled it off. Until Captain John Price figured it out. Shepard had to work fast to lay it onto someone. And for it to make logical sense, it had to be you." He finished his stare now cold.
"Why..." you breathed out barely loud enough for him to hear.
"Because y/n, sometimes you have to sacrifice your biggest wants in life to achieve the impossible goals." He spoke, his voice now tickling your ears in annoyance.
"So why come see me then?"
"To get intel, what a stupid question" your heart sank deeper and deeper the more harsh his responses got. The Reggie you grew up with would have never thought to bat a mean eye at you. Shepard had him so corrupted. "But listen, this what we're gonna do. You drop the investigation you got going on, get Price to stop the allegations or we'll continue to pursue with putting the blame on you. Our stars are aligned in order, y/n. We don't plan of any further interruptions."
'And if you get caught? Then what?" You hissed feeling your body with anger.
"Then we'll get to that bridge if we cross it..." he responded, "I do care for you but there no room for me to cut you slack on this without you ruining it."
"He's got you so corrupt in the head, it physically makes me sick." You growled. Reggie laughed slightly throwing his head back.
"Well, it's been a blast chatting with you but unfortunately duty calls." He chimed in walking a few steps until he was inches from your face. "I'm warning you y/n. You won't like what happens if you take the route I told you not to go on. You'll enjoy life in federal prison, just like you should've been years ago." And with that, he had turned around, walked to his door, putting himself inside. His car started, reversed, and was gone in a span of 2 minutes.
You quickly took out your phone, hitting the 'stop' button on your video screen. You had chosen to record it, to get visual evidence. You were going to stop this before it could get any worse and anyone could get hurt. Your eyes glued to the lit phone screen when a Large hand grasped your wrist causing you to jump up in the arm. Ready to swing until your eyes landed a familiar frame. Your eyes trailed the body up to see the mask. Fuck it was ghost.
"Are you fucking suicidal?" He grabbed keeping his grip on your wrist tight. "What point of 'staying low' do you not understand? That didn't mean for you to go to the problem itself and try to work things out." He was audibly upset, the slight anger in his voice shot needles to your ears.
"I had to confirm it myself." You spoke softly refusing to meet eyes with ghost.
"You think we were lying to you? Bloody hell." He scoffed shaking his head.
'I just had to have him tell me himself. I needed to hear it from him. For it to finally set in." You mumbled keeping your eyes on the ground.
"What if he did something rash? What if he hurt you?" Ghost continued asking questions as he removed his hand from your wrist and placed both his hands on top of your shoulders, he was now standing standing directly in front of you. Your eyes looked up at his mask, scanning his eyes to discover a hint of worry in his eyes.
"I recorded it." You spoke, with your eyes still on his mask.
"You what?" Ghost questioned your answer. "On your mobile device?"
"Yes, on my phone." You spoke holding your phone up in your hand.
"We show Price and go from there." Ghost spoke quickly. "Let's get back. I'll follow behind you."
