Chapter 39

Smokescreen continues to drive along the highway. After speeding up, the black SUV that was following them did the same thing. It became pretty clear they were no friendly. Smokescreen did his best to throw them off by trying to confuse them between cars. But as Smokescreen had chosen a custom race car as his vehicle mode, it wasn't difficult for anyone to spot him. Saphira began to grow more fearful. Especially when Optimus told her that they were not able to lock onto the original coordinates. There was something blocking them, but they couldn't figure out what. So Saphira instructed Smokescreen to head towards Yellowstone. Even though it was the direction of the storm itself.

Smokescreen did as she suggested and Saphira alerted Optimus that they were heading there. And he said that they were able to lock onto the coordinates of the park. That was something, but as Smokescreen turned onto a road that was less travelled so he could race along it, as it was a shortcut to Wyoming, the SUV turned onto the road and sped towards them as well.

"Well...they're certainly a lot faster than I first thought," Smokescreen commented as he watched the SUV get closer. "Too bad it's an off road vehicle, otherwise I would definitely dare him off the road to follow me."

"I think they would still follow." Jack was texting Fowler as he was able to send text, but not call. "Mech must have some new technology in order to block the com link, your signal and locking the ground bridge onto a target. There's no other explanation."

"I agree. They have been making fast efforts to build their Mech bots, do I wouldn't be surprised if they also improved their technology. I suspect they have been waiting for this moment." Saphira felt tears rolling down her face, but she ignored them. "I hope we can..." She gasped loudly when she saw a missile pull out from the side of the car. "Missile!"

Smokescreen said nothing as he had seen the missile and waited until it was launched to swerve before it could hit him. The missile hit the ground beside them inside, destroying part of the road and kicking up a lot of dirt and rock. Saphira was shocked they would do that while she was their target.

"Well, frag..." Smokescreen lurched forward suddenly as he began to race faster. "There is no time to lose." Saphira gasped when she heard a clasp of thunder ahead of them. "Are you sure we should go into this storm, Saphira? It looks very wild with how the trees are blowing. I can feel the window on my side."

"There's no other way to get out! The storm shoulder make it harder for their airborne bots. I thought I heard helicopters and jets before, so hopefully we can even the odds..." She yelped when another missile hits the road behind them, causing Smokescreen to lurch again and his rear wheels lift slightly from the ground. "I'm scared!"

Jack grabbed Saphira's hand gently to hold and try to comfort her. "We are going to get through this, stay strong Saphira. For yourself and your sparklings."

Saphira nodded. 'Optimus, Megatron...hurry. They're firing missiles at us,' She pleads through the link openly.

'We have arrived and are on our way!' Optimus responded affirmatively. 'Megatron and Starscream have flown ahead to locate you. We are still not able to get your signal. Not even Jack's phone.'

'Starscream and I will find you, Dreadwing and Soundwave are on standby for the moment and will come if needed. Even the insecticons.' Saphira was actually happy to hear the insecticons were ready to mobilize if they need to. 'Stay strong, Saphira. We are coming as fast as we can.'

Saphira believed them. She grasped the side of the car when Smokescreen drifts suddenly onto a small road beneath a line of trees and continued to speed along it. She wasn't surprised the SUV was following, however she screamed as a helicopter suddenly rams through the trees and transformed in front of them. Smokescreen simply sped up and swerved around the bot when it transformed.
