Chapter 48

After returning to base, Optimus had Rafael reopen the ground bridge to the location of the relic. He wanted to waste absolutely no time when it came to retrieving it. Confident that they have found a relic that would indeed help them against Mech, Optimus walked through the vortex with Ratchet, Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Arcee, Smokescreen, Wheeljack, Breakdown and Knockout into a forested area. Glancing around, he saw nothing significant.

Arcee held up her scanner and smiled when it began to beep in the direction of the relic. "Follow me." She made her way towards what appeared to be the side of a cliff.

Optimus followed close behind Arcee as he was feeling determined, especially with the sadness and frustration that Saphira was feeling right now. "I really hope that when I tell Saphira about this relic, she will feel better..."

"I guess she's starting to struggle...I can't blame her..." Bumblebee glanced down sadly as he spoke. "And that she's made to go through these tests and experiments against her will...it is one thing to be a prisoner, it's another to be a test subject."

"Oh, definitely," Breakdown said in agreement. "If anything, Mech was more merciful to me by disabling my pain receptors. It was horrific to watch, but I was in zero pain. After that, I guess they stopped caring."

"It seems that way..." Wheeljack stopped and frowned, glancing back for a moment. "Hmm..."

Bulkhead glanced back at Wheeljack curiously. "Is something the matter, Jackie?"

Wheeljack did not respond straight away as he observed the forest intensely and grabbed out a scanner. "I thought I heard something...I have a bad feeling all of a sudden."

"Please do not say that!" Knockout exclaimed in a frustrated tone, placing his hands on his head as he did not want to hear something bad was coming. "We do not need to be paranoid about any new problems."

"Sorry, Knockout, but I just thought I heard..." Wheeljack stopped when there was a loud creak in the trees, making everyone else stop and look back. Wheeljack looked back and frowned. "I think something is in the trees."

"Let's get this relic and get out of here!" Arcee said bluntly, shuddering at the thought of something following them. "There are no Mech bots on our scanners, so I don't think we will have that company."

"I wouldn't say that too soon..." Ratchet armed himself with his swords in case he needed to fight. "Be on your guard. We do not know what surprises Mech has in store for us."

Wheeljack hummed, grabbing out his night vision glasses to place over his eyes. He looked around at the forest carefully, and he didn't see anything straight away. He hoped they were just hearing the window blowing through the tree, though there was very little wind.

They keep walking towards the cliff face cautiously until they came to side of a steep hill, leading down into an open dirt plain and ahead of them was the cliff face. Optimus frowned as there were numerous boulders covering the relic. He could see this would be a big task for then to do.

"The relic seems to be at the bottom of that cliff," Arcee said, pointing towards the cliff. "We should get closer to make sure..."

"You might want to hold that thought," Wheeljack interrupts suddenly. "We have an infestation of creepy crawlies in the trees." The others turn around and widen their optics when they spot multiple purple optics glaring back at them. Wheeljack grabbed out his katana swords to fight. "Too bad we don't have any pests spray!"
