Carly and Nevaeh were in the living room, Carly was showing her some baby pictures of the brothers when a cars engine rumbled outside.

Carly gently closed the book, "That must be Lucas."

Nevaeh stiffened, her spine steeling while her hands shook. She looked all around the living room for a way to escape in case anything happened. She hoped nothing would happen.

A second later the front door was slammed shut, footsteps were heard heading towards the living room and Nevaeh couldn't help but release a shaky breath.

"I assure you he's not going to hurt you." Carly put a hand on top of her shaking ones, stilling them for the moment.

"Lucas is so soft at heart, I guess seeing you must've triggered something in his memory, but that's no excuse, I promise you we talked with him and he'll never repeat what he did." Carly squeezed her hands tightly, reassuring her.

Did she believe a word she said? No, is she gonna pretend to believe what she said? Yes.

Hence she shook her head, returning her smile which could be seen as fake from 1o miles away.

Both Carly and Nevaeh stood up when the door opened, Lucas' eyes immediately connecting with Nevaeh's.

She looked away instantly, not handling the intense stare of his lifeless eyes.

"Lucas, honey." Carly met him halfway in a hug.

"Hey mom." He sounded more calm from before, which must be good, right?

"Can I talk with Nevaeh? Alone?" He asked, looking at his mom for a second before looking at Nevaeh.

Her nails dug into her palm nervously.

"Of course, Nevaeh, honey, I'm just right outside, okay?" Carly reassured the nervous girl, throwing a smile her way before leaving the room, closing the door softly behind her.

Lucas took a small step towards her, one to which she took one back, her face morphing one into fear.

Lucas stilled, his fists clenching by his sides before he took in a deep breath before releasing it slowly.

"I'm not going to hurt you Nevaeh, I promise you." He held his hands up in surrender.

"I'm just here to apologize, I know what I did was fucked up and I don't have an excuse for hurting you." He looked sincere.

"I don't know, something inside me just snapped, and I didn't mean to take it out on you, and I'm so so sorry."

"Mom probably told you about our dead sister, and you reminded me of her, I don't know." He sighed, running his hand through his blond curls in frustration.

"I just.."

"It's okay." Nevaeh replied nervously, her voice small.

"I-I understand." She gulped.

"If me being here bothers you and reminds you of something that hurts you, I can leave, like I said, I understand." She met his gaze, giving him a smile.

He smiled back, his eyes shining with something familiar, something she's seen before, but couldn't remember where or when.

"I deeply apologize, and I hope you can forgive me, maybe not now, but hopefully later on, maybe we can get to know each other and maybe be friends?"
He scratched his neck with a hopeful smile.

"You're right, it'll take some time, but sure, I'd like to get to know you." Nevaeh smiled, not as scared as before but a small part of fear still lingers.
