"AJ you look- HILARIOUS HA I've NEVER seen you with makeup before!" Rainbow cried loudly, hitting her leg with one hand repeatedly in laughter.

"And you'll never see it again." Applejack huffed. She swiped a wipe out of Rarity's hand and began to rub her face vigorously. She didn't like the look of the makeup on her face either but the insult still stung, even though she agreed with it. She tossed the beige and pink stained wipe in a nearby bin as she walked away and sat down on a purple fluffed chair facing a vanity as a breathe of hot air exited her lips. She crossed her legs and faced away from the girls, yet still being able to see them in her mirror reflection. None of her friends followed her as she walked away, probably for the best as AJ felt somewhat humiliated.

Normally she was pretty good with handling backhanded compliments or in Rainbow's case, flat out insults, but for some reason it hurt this time, and Applejack couldn't quite identify why.

She gazed into the mirror and her eyes changed focus from herself to her friends. Twilight had just sat down next to Rarity who raising a compact puff to the girls face. 'Ah couldn't have looked that bad in Rarity's makeup if the other girls wanted the same thing done to them.' AJ assumed. As that thought entered her mind her eyeline shifted over to the prismatic girl who shot down her looks just a few minutes ago. She tried to look away as if holding a visual grudge, but before she could, Dash caught her eye in the mirror looking at her and started over in her direction. Applejack's eyes widened in realisation of the approach and looked in the opposite direction that Rainbow was coming from. She sat there in silence and listened to the crescendo of footsteps before the soft thud of Rainbow sitting on the stool next to her. AJ didn't speak. 'If Rainbow was going to act like a jerk then she was going to be treated like-' Before she could finish her train of thought, she felt a warmth growing on her arm from Rainbows contact. Even that small touch initiated a rush throughout her body that only she made her feel.

Applejack remained silent, forcing the other to speak first. She wasn't going to play no tag team of 'Oh ah initiated contact first so you speak first.' Dash's hand remained in its place, but then it gradually made its way down to AJ's thigh and rested there. Air was quickly drawn into her mouth in a sucking motion, her chest puffing up with oxygen, she didn't know how to react to this sudden sensation, one she hadn't felt from her in years.

'AJ...'

Applejacks ears perked up at the start of the conversation. She didn't know what to except, an apology? A question? Another insult? She waited for her next few words quietly in anticipation.

'I'm...'

An apology maybe?

'I...uh...you didn't look, THAT hilarious, with makeup on.'

A half compliment to fix her mistakes? It wasn't much but, 'Ah'll take it,' AJ considered.

'Thanks Dash.' She replied half-heartedly. 'You know, ah don't see you in dresses that often, doesn't look half bad.' Upon delivering her comment she turned to face her friend, eyes flickering between the hand on her upper thigh and Dash's face staring at hers. Their eyes met and for a split-second AJ almost felt the spark they once shared burn again, but before she could acknowledge her feelings, Rainbow broke the eye contact and looked Applejack up and down quickly before stuttering out a response.

'Um...yeah! I wanted to try something different. Hey you're not dressed yet, maybe you should wear a dress too AJ.' Dash suggested, slowly drawing her hand away from Applejacks leg.

'You know what Rainbow? Maybe ah will.' AJ began to stand up with Rainbow copying her as they both started to move away from the vanity, but just before Dash fully got up she was bombarded by Twilight and Pinkie with brushes in their hands and styling-hungry eyes.

'Dash what IS this hair? You cannot go to the formal with these knots silly!' Pinkie chirped as she pushed Rainbow back in her seat. Twilight swerved around to the other side of her, prohibiting her escape. Applejack continued to walk away to find an outfit, however ever so slightly gazing in Dash's direction and chuckled under her breath at her hopelessness.

Rainbow was looking at Applejack walking away with longing eyes, leaving AJ to ponder if they communicated more 'save me' or 'I wanted to stay with you.' Before the thought was lengthened, Rarity jumped at Applejack, looping arms with her and dragging her away to a section of denim dresses.

Dash couldn't tell if AJ was trying to look back as she was stolen by the now bedazzled Rarity and she was preoccupied with stopping Pinkie from braiding animal shapes into her hair. She put up a fair fight against the two girls but the second Applejack disappeared from her line of sight she gave in to their detangling.

'We'll be quick Rainbow' Twilight comforted.

'I hope so.'
