We're kinda gonna skip a bit here cause friendship is magic = kind of goofy, so we're gonna have a small appledash snippet of the scene and then gonna continue.
*Sunset has turned into demon thing*
As she transformed, lighting strikes and flaring orange particles wrapped around the high schooler shocking all those watching. Emerging from the dark cloud, Sunset Shimmer, cracking with power and magic in the form of a demon, flew higher up until she loomed over the six friends. She was terrifyingly huge with possessed black eyes and torn wings, a sight causing immense fear in Rainbow Dash as she let out a soft whimper.
Applejack was standing nearby and heard the fearful whine, turning around to see a petrified Rainbow Dash who looked like she wanted to slink away and hide. Applejack despite feeling hurt for how she was abandoned, still cared for her and didn't enjoy seeing her in this state. She took a few steps closer to Dash and held an arm in front of her, slowly positioning herself in front of the meek girl and providing some form of protection. She tried to provide some verbal comfort, "It'll be okay Rainbow, I won't let anything happen to you."
She would certainly try to do her best to protect her, but she doesn't fully know her range and if she'd be able to protect Dash from a magical she-demon. What she had said seemed to work as Rainbow sheltered herself further and placed her hands on AJ's shoulders, unsure of who she was trying to provide comfort to. Her words melted into RD's psyche like butter and instantly calmed her to an extent. She can trust AJ, and she hardly ever lies. Looking up at Applejack, strong, brave, sacrificial, her heart, unwillingly, melted a little bit more. Snapping back to the circumstance they're facing...
*they defeat sunset with friendship blah blah, say goodbye to twilight blah blah*
"I can't believe all that just happened," Fluttershy whispered softly, the shock still wearing off.
"Me neither darling, that was unlike anything we've ever experienced before." Rarity replied, clasping Flutter's arm as if trying to steady herself. Her eyes connected with Applejacks for a split second filled with empathy and silent concern of are-you-okay. AJ exchanged a soft smile in return, providing a source of comfort for the girls, affirming that its over now. She shot a look at Sunset Shimmer who was talking to Principal Celestia and noticed her passing Sunset a brush and pan, signifying that she has to clean up her own mess.
"Well, we have a new friend now! Whether we like it or not..." Pinkie started out exclaiming but then phased into a grump, she seems to be a slow forgiver.
"It's okay guys, it's over, Sunset is no longer a threat considering the crown is now back in Equestria with Twilight. She's just a normal high schooler now, and I'm sure if anyone can help set her on the path for good, it's us." AJ reassured the girls, pulling Rainbow Dash from behind her into the circle they were subconsciously conversing in.
"You're right Applejack, I'm sure she'd really appreciate a new garment considering she's destroyed her current ones in this disaster!" Rarity pointed out while suggesting a way to befriend the supposed villain.
"She may actually be really sweet once we get to know her! I know some people can be hard on the outside but inside they're just big softies," Fluttershy cooes, gaze altering to look at Rainbow, raising the questioning of whether she was talking about her or not.
"With friends like us, she'll turn out just as awesome!" Rainbow added, feeling like she had to say something considering everyone else had. Applejack eyed her reflecting on how a friendship with Dash can be far from awesome, but decided to push down those feelings for later and let the emotions caused by tonight deflate first.
*everyone reconnected and talked for a bit before deciding to go home, ending the formal early due to circumstances. People started getting in their own cars, driving home, booking cars, walking home in groups, or asking family to come collect them*
Applejack wished Rarity, Pinki, Rainbow and Fluttershy equal goodnight and goodbyes as she walked over to her red truck directly parked in front of the school. It's a miracle it did not get damaged in the demon process. As she got to the truck and began to unlock the door so she could slide in, she heard Dash calling to her.
"AJ wait! I gotta talk to you about something!"
Applejack paused for a second but then proceeded to climb into her car, and started the engine. Dash seeing this began to scurry over faster and knocked on the window once she reached it, determined to talk to Applejack. AJ showing mercy rolled down the window and raised an eyebrow at Dash. "Are you okay?" She asked in a tone more accusational than empathetic.
"I just wanted to apologise..."
"...go on."
"Listen AJ, I'm a real jerk. I'm inconsiderate and bad at communicating and competitive, and I am so sorry I left you on the bleachers in there. I was being selfish and I just left you instead of staying with you or offering if you'd like to come with me like a real friend. I don't deserve you AJ. As a friend or...anything else...but I just wanted to way I am so sorry."
Rainbow never pours her heart out this easily, and its rare to even receive a sorry from her. This was a big step for her, and AJ could tell she meant it.
"Its okay...sugarcube, thank you for telling me this." She replied, speaking softly into Rainbow's magenta eyes. "And I enjoy being friends with you...or whatever else..." She added, murmuring the last part quietly yet still loud enough for Dash to hear. A small smile grew on Rainbow's face before she announced goodnight and began to walk away. But before she got far, AJ stopped her. "Rainbow wait!"
Like a moth to the flame, RD turned around and came back to the truck as if she was hoping to be called. "Do you want to stay at mine tonight sugarcube? I know you got scared back there and it would probably be best if you stayed over so I can...you know...protect you from nightmares?" She suggested kindly, offering an opportunity with slight romantic allusions.
"Pfft AJ! I don't get nightmares, I'm too awesome for that." Rainbow said as her reflex response. As Applejack's face sank ever so slightly to indicate she maybe wanted her to not decline, she retracted her statement. "...Actually, who knows, this was pretty traumatic. Maybe I will need some company."
"Climb in then sugarcube."
