The girls had just performed a terrible rendition of one of their original songs Rainbow had written, it all falling apart when their members were being sabotaged by those competitive enough to try and make them fail. Rarity's metallic detailing on her coat being ripped by magnets descending from the ceiling, Fluttershy cowering behind Pinkie's drum set and small bits of confetti stuck in Dash and AJ's guitar frets from the misplaced party cannon the hyper girl set off in hopes of redeeming the chaos. It was clear Applejack was getting annoyed at Rarity, the two having an argument about her costume choice before they went on stage. It was furthermore enhanced by her magnetised body being swung near her, the girl shoving her away back to her own microphone confused. Dash and AJ didn't talk when they arrived at the venue but she could instantly see the change in her behaviour, obviously trying to convey to Rainbow that she was not going to lead Rarity on. After the set, Applejack and Rarity flew into an argument, Rarity's aggressive push back mainly evoked from her hurt from a gathering of moments that have led her to believe she liked Rainbow more than her. The group had fallen into calamity, Sunset only being able to stand by and watch as she wasn't a proper member of the group and Twilight anxiously scribbling in her notebook to produce any lyrics she could to pull them out of this mess, the fights only making her feel worse and doubt her abilities.

As days went by with them playing different songs and moving on to the next round, continuously beating out their competitors, Rainbow and Applejack did not talk, AJ respecting her need for space and Dash avoiding contact with the girl as she needed time to think, on top of the crushing responsibility of being the lead singer for their band, needing to win enough times to beat each group they faced but not be overly awesome to expose their magic. After one specific performance when Sunset had thrown herself at Dash, shoving her away from the spotlight to cover up the fact she was beginning to 'Pony up,' Rainbow was infuriated at the interruption of her epic solo and had a lot of steam to blow off. As the girls began to attack Sunset for trying to diffuse the situation, Rarity took her Applejack anger out on the girl, telling her all the ways she could have handled it differently, Rainbow also made comments here and there. Applejack did feel slightly bad for the poor girl who was just trying to help and changed the position of anger to deflect onto Dash. She didn't know why she suddenly gained the confidence to stand up to her like that as she came from no leveraged position, being a traitor to the girl she liked twice.

"None of this would've happened if you weren't trying to show off!" AJ told her, the first time the girls had spoken in a while. Frowning back at her and the finger the girl had raised to jab at her chest, Rainbow stayed silent with an annoyed glare on her face the girl pushed, "As usual."

Observing the argument, from the other side of the stage, Sunset heard mellifluous singing. The Dazzlings. She turned their way to see what they were doing, her eyes meeting those of Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna with a green glow similar to what she saw surround the bottle the other night consuming their iris. As the gears began to churn in her mind, she was brought back to listening to her arguing friends, AJ and Rarity now having a spat.

"-and I had the most perfect outfit for the finals!" Rarity whined, clutching her hands together as if in mourning.

"Yeah, cause that's the real tragedy here Rarity. That you won't get to play dress up." Applejack shot back which pulled a shocked face from the girl, the distance between them further riveting apart. They stared each other down in anger as Rainbow placed herself between them, sick of the argument about fashion choices, "Can you guys keep it down? They're going to announce who's moving on!" She told them, placing one hand on each girl's shoulder to push them away from one another, yet the staring daggers remained consistent. Both girls shook Dash's hands off of them as Fluttershy contributed to the conversation with dismay.
