"OOHH! Who's hosting?" Pinkie exclaimed as she bounded over to the group huddled around Rarity's phone, eagerly stretching their necks out to see who sent them the message.
"It's from...Spitfire?" Rarity read the name linked to the phone number and her jaw dropped. "Why would Spitfire invite us to a party?" She questioned as the other girls looked at each other confused and shrugging. "She's your friend Rainbow, any idea why?"
Dash shook her head, mirroring the others, "I wouldn't know why either. Maybe we should ask who else is going?" Rainbow asked, keeping in mind Spitfire is the nicest of the group, so there was a less likely chance it was some elaborate prank.
"Oh good idea darling! Investigate!" She happily embraced the idea, blatantly referring to her love of murder mystery, spy-themed novels she'd read cover to cover whenever she got a moment away from her threads. As Rarity began to type out a text to send to the athlete, Rainbow walked over and put a hand over the girls phone, preventing her from sending the message. "Maybe I should do it Rare, since I'm closer to them, then they won't click that we're a bit suspicious of their invite."
Rarity looked up and paused for a second to comprehend the idea before gladly replying with full acceptance, "That makes more sense."
Dash slid around the grey-marbled island bench in Pinkie's kitchen, drastically contrasting her pink hues, to pick up her phone and see the group message Spitfire sent out to the girls. She went onto a private chat with her and sent a chilled, nonchalant message to question who else would participate. 'hey fire, saw the invite, was wondering who else u invited?'
Almost as quickly as she sent the text, Spitfire read it as if she was online awaiting RSVP's from the group and a typing bubble popped up, three dots looping from transparent to opaque as the other crafted a response. As the new message came through, the phone vibrated lightly, tingling Rainbow's hands wrapped around the device, alerting her of the new text.
"Spitfire said she invited all the bands!" Rainbow called out to her friends who had initially gone back to conversation other than the party, knowing better than to ponder easily overthought topics.
Upon hearing her statement that drove their question to its solve, they began to chatter excitedly about whether they should attend or not, knowing there would be a lot more people attending than they thought. Cutting through the harmonious atmosphere, Twilight raised a question very important to who they may have to encounter tonight. "What about the Dazzlings?"
A silence then settled over them as they turned to face the self-isolated girl, notebook still balanced in her lap which was barely visible to contain scribbles, scratched out words, and broken lyrics. To try be more helpful and push her resourceful connection to the host, she suggested, "I'll ask." Unlocking her phone again to send through another interrogation.
Twilight began to make some form of speech about what to do if their biggest threats turned up and how they would have to act strategically while unbeknown to Rainbow, AJ slid to her side and leaned back against the counter, arms supporting herself as only her elbows made contact with the stone. To alert Dash of her sudden presence, she whispered a question to her, careful not to interrupt Twilight or draw attention from the others who were listening intently. "What kind of party do you think it'll be?
Rainbow felt a shiver riffle down her body in sound waves upon hearing the unexpected voice and turned to face Applejack, replying in a way of specifying her question. "What do you mean by kind of party?"
Content warning-ish: Drinking reference and poor choices
AJ narrowed her eyes and looked down considering her next vocabulary structure and composition, 'You know, will there be drinks? Like the parties we met at before we got together?'
Dash remembered those. She'd spend most of the night with her athlete friends, being amongst all the noise and welcoming the blaring music that further enraged the power of the alcohol she consumed. They'd play stupid games in which the only reward was more of the cheap burn that would singe their throat, yet the insentient reactions, losing sense of what was happening, only made everything more fun and less predictable.
One night she got especially reckless, smashing out bets with people she knew she'd never win to, causing her consequences of jumping into pools fully clothed or draining whole bottles of corner store spirits that she carried out mindlessly with the encouragement of her friends. One of the guys on the boy's football team decided it would be a great idea to place a bet with Rainbow, challenging her to an arm wrestle, which it was clear he'd win, with all his testosterone build-up, it was never a fair fight. But Dash, fuelled by the intoxication, agreed, unaware of the consequence if she lost. As expected, she went down easy, not without a fight, but easily, and as her friends laughed and whacked her on the back, they pointed in a direction of where it seemed she'd have to carry out her consequence. Laughing with the others, they led her to where her loss had to be fulfilled, taking her up a set of stairs and onto the roof. It was a two-storey house and the reach was not too far from the ground, but as her unconscious brain was knocked out and her thoughts were blurred, moving with the group as they pushed her closer to the edge, she heard them egging her on to jump. With chemicals swarming in her brain, the ground seemed closer and the pressuring calls louder. As they repeated, 'jump, jump jump,' she went with it, there was too much noise in her brain that her sense was fogged. She moved closer to the roof ledge and brushed the hands of her friends away who were cultivating the dangerous feat.
She was going to do it.
As her vision flashed from blurred to black and repeated, she took one step, and then another. One more and she'd be off. Raising her sneaker off the ground and sloppily dragging it to the edge, her weight shifted and she let herself lean to one side, exposing herself to the injury she was about to succumb. Letting herself go with the wind picking up. she could feel it begin to speed with her change in velocity, before she went over the edge, a strong grip wrapped around her waist and pulled her back to the solid metal lining the roof. Dash had too much for the night and she began to shut down, readily passing out in the arms of whoever rescued her as the yelling of her saviour at her friends bled into her mind that was slowly turning to darkness.
Turns out her liberator was Applejack.
Months after that, even when they were in a relationship, AJ never budged to reveal why she did it, so Dash just moved on with the thought that Applejack liked her even then and let the issue be brushed off. Returning back the conversation and letting the memories fade, she reassured Applejack of any fears she may have. "If it is anything like that, I'll make sure I don't get to that extent okay?"
AJ looked at Rainbow with concern and let an anxious sigh exit as a new text came in from Dash's phone. Four words were splayed across the bottom of Rainbow's screen initiating a new direction of disturbance and curiosity for what would go down at the party. Reading the text in unison, AJ and Dash looked up at each other from the illuminated phone with suspicion in their gaze before turning to their friends to share the response.
"Spitfire said, it was their idea."
