-----------

Rainbow was peacefully gazing at her lantern as it grew further away from her, yet making no effort to strain her eyes to watch it any clearer, purely satisfied with where it was going knowing it would be with Applejack's. Despite the two not sitting at the table when they made their lanterns, it was found that they complimented the other with their shades as if they were able to read eachother's minds or had some kind of mental bond. As the two bobbed away from the rest of the paper crowd, she took a deep breath in an out, releasing anything minuscule thought held up in her and just enjoying the moment.

Yet her quiet observation of the natural scenery was interrupted upon feeling a touch at the back of her head, the length of it spreading no longer than the gentle tap of two fingers. Not wanting to make immediate assumptions of what it was even though she had a strong feeling she knew what just happened, she froze still, eyes stuck on the sky as if afraid to move. She didn't understand whether she didn't want to move incase she'd disrupt the follow through action of what occurred or if she genuinely had no idea how to respond, but the leaping of heaviness in her chest allowed her to deduce that it was a familiar mix of the former and the latter.

Rainbow slowly looked to the ground on her right side, not directly at the girl her back was in contact with, but enough to see her from the corner of her eye and inform the girl silently she acknowledged the gesture. While everyone else was immersed in the sky, these two were immersed with what was happening on the ground. With caution, Dash paused before making eye contact with AJ as if waiting for the worst possible scenario, regret, joking laughter, an apology. But that didn't come.

Lifting her head, her gaze travelled up Applejack's shoulder, neck, lips, until she was looking at her eyes, the midnight horizon speckled with yellow globes reflecting in her emerald pair. Feeling the tense heat of her stare, Applejack looked down at the girl she had initiated a delicate kiss upon and began surveying her face to find any inkling of notion that found discomfort in her move.

The two settled into eachother's eyes as if communicating in a language only they understood, flurries of emotions flashing by with each blink or furrow. Not speaking or making a peep in the slightest, Applejack encouraged another action. A form of questioning whether Dash was facing the same internal mess as she was. It had to be subtle enough as to not alert their friends of the gay disasters, but also not nothingness so there was a message sent with every nerve that connected to Rainbow's.

Angling her gaze downwards, she looked at her arm that was wrapped around the girls loosely and considered her future decision one last time before committing to it. Sliding her hand down the others arm softly, her fingers barely grazing her skin leaving a tickle of yearn with each bit of area she gained, she did not take her eyes off her action, the smallest part of her fearful of rejection if she looked at her again. She found herself reflecting how she hardly found anything scary enough or sad enough to inflict intense emotions on her, not even the most unfortunate deaths of her favourite character or an award winning horror could have that effect on her.

But this damned girl, she stupidly took ages to realise, had the power to alter her whole world.

Biting the inside of her mouth as if holding onto herself would make her more courageous, she let her hand finally meet Rainbow's, pausing for a second at her wrist in silent consent. When the other did not pull away in annoyance or awkwardness, it continued its journey, her three main fingers smoothening onto her slightly crouched palm and feeling the divots of her creases, the fresh calluses of her athleticism. Pausing one last time and motivating herself with a quick drawing in of air, she found the gaps between Dash's fingers and slid between them, adjusting her grasp before closing her grip around her hand.
