"y/n...?" the quintessence ghoul's voice broke.

"yes.. y/n. your y/n." you smiled, stepping towards him once more. "n-.. no.." aether swallowed harshly, bringing his hands up and gripping onto his horns.

"no?" you asked. "no." aether shook his head, squeezing his eyes shut. "rithin, i don't-" "don't call me that! satan, please stop calling me that." aether exclaimed, his voice breaking even more at the end. you nodded, giving him a second to compose himself.

"i-.. i don't believe you. you're not y/n. you're not my y/n. my y/n would've come for me already." aether whispered, letting his hands fall from his horns as he looked at you. you frowned.

"i tried, ri-.. fuck, i'm sorry.." you sighed. aether stared at you, his ears pinned as his tail drooped. "i tried to leave, but you know how the city of stones is. i could barely keep watch over you before you disappeared." you sighed.

"prove it." aether hissed. you stared at him, not knowing exactly what he meant. "prove to me that you're my y/n." aether stated.

i just told you where we lived- y'know what.. you thought to yourself for a moment before holding out your hand. aether stared at you cautiously.

"please.." you sighed. you wanted your rithin back, even if he wasn't rithin anymore.

aether stared for another moment or two before placing his wrist in your hand, his palm up.

you smiled, ghosting your nails down his arm from his elbow, going down each of his fingers. you looked up at him as you grazed your nails over his middle finger, skipping to his pinkie since it would always make him shiver in a way he didn't like if you went over his ring finger.

aether looked back up at you, tears welling in his eyes.

"it is you.." aether whispered, a feeling of pure happiness and bliss rushing him as he quickly wrapped you in a hug. you smiled, tearing up a bit yourself as you hugged aether back.

though, a pain in your core somewhat ruined the moment for you. you quickly brushed it off, hugging aether even tighter.

as the hug went on, aether rambling about how much he missed you, the pain in your abdomen got more intense as your eyes fluttered slightly.

"are you okay?" aether asked as he realized you hadn't been reacting to him at all. the quintessence ghoul pulled away from the hug, looking at you with a worried look.

you went to say something but the ache in your core turned into a burning spike of pain, making an agonized scream rip from your throat as you doubled over, wrapping your arms around your stomach as you fell to your knees.

everything around you blurred as you felt your body become overrun with heat, the base of your wings feeling like they were about to be ripped off.

you knew there were ghouls around you, one of their touches relieved the hot pain, but you couldn't get yourself mentally balanced enough to say you needed more of that ghoul's abilities.
