Y/N's POV, 1981

I'd been many places in the last few years, states all over America even overseas in Europe but nowhere for me beat the feeling of being back in California where I belonged. I enjoyed seeing different places believe me but I left a lot behind to do so.

My dad basically got a promotion at his job and that meant we had to travel a lot and to save the family being split up, I was dragged along by my parents wherever my dad needed to go. I wanted to stay in California but when this happened, I wasn't old enough but now I'm an adult, I'm nineteen and I chose to head back to California.

My parents respected my decision and even gave me some money and my mom helped me find an apartment for me to live in, now I was living near the Sunset Strip as a personal assistant for a local businessman, a friend of my dads.

When I moved away from here before I was still in high school, so my final exams I had to sit in Illinois, the state which my father first had us moved too, it was a pain in the ass to arrange but my parents worked with my old school to sort it out and although I hated school with a passion, I loved the friends I had there particularly my two best friends, Tom Bass and Vince Wharton.

I'd lost contact with them over the last couple of years, I stayed in contact with both of them throughout my six months living in Illinois but then lost contact with them a couple of months later when I got to North Carolina because their lives changed as did mine, they lost contact from each other too from what Tommy told me last I heard from him and then we lost touch.

It was sad but that's life, part of me wanted to find them now I'm back but knew they probably hadn't thought of me in a long time and have their own lives doing their own thing so chose not too seek them out.

I had got off from work a couple of hours ago and had the day off tomorrow and decided that I couldn't be assed to cook tonight so found myself in Denny's, I'd just finished dinner and was now drinking a coffee minding my own business.

I tried not to think about my life before leaving California because I knew it would just make me upset, when I came back here I didn't know anyone having lost all my old friends and although I wasn't lonely, I did miss hanging out and having people to call up and ask to go out with.

There was some interesting music being played around here and there were a few bands I'd heard people talking about which I might go check out, it gives me a chance to enjoy myself and possibly find some new friends.

As I thought about the names of these bands and to make a note to go find out when they were playing, I didn't pay attention to the group who had just sat down then feel the eyes analysing me from the table a few feet away, and certainly didn't register the total shocked exclamation of 'dude look!', that was until I was confronted by that same voice a few seconds later, much closer this time.

"Y/N?" I heard a now noticeably familiar voice call in disbelief... it was a voice I hadn't heard in a long while, one I never thought I'd hear again but one that something, somewhere thought I should hear again.

I looked up quickly to see if I was hearing things or mistaking this person for someone I used to know and check if they were ever talking to me, but then it would be a hell of a coincidence if someone in here had the same name as me and was sitting this close to where I was. They had to be talking to me.
