"All clear, Do you think this floor is high enough that those fucking dead won't smell us out?"

Simon sighed, taking off the gas mask and clipping it onto his vest , nodding his head slightly.

"If you're a dumb ass then yeah they wont smell us out, did you forget their pattern? Their scenes get better at night. Help me barricade the stairwell."

(Y/N) rolled her eyes and pulled off her gas mask, tossing it onto a small coffee table in the room that they had both chosen was the cleanest. She helped move the biggest furniture from the other hotel rooms into the stairwell, blocking access to the floor they were on. The sound of groans and slurred cries were echoing through the stairwell, making the two work a bit faster.

No one really knows how this came to be but the news said the outbreak was first reported in Washington...Everything going downhill from there. People panicked, buying food and first-aid. The panic only sends people to their demise, the rush getting more people out and more people attacked by the new. It took a few days for the infected to actually look like they were infected.

(Y/N)'s team was tasked with eliminating the violent, no matter if they looked infected or not. It was too much of a risk to even try and get near them. It was a difficult task, children being regular...They were usually found with their parents. Heart breaking to have to see such innocence be taken over by such an infection.

The struggles to keep the population under control failed and everything was gone in a matter of years. (Y/N), her efforts and her team...shambles and missing beloved team members. There was nothing left but to burn the town that they called home for such a long time and so much time trying to protect.

Flames, the dead's groans and streaks from their decaying vocal cords.

After all of the halling and stacking was done (Y/N) stripped herself of her gear, crawling onto the bed in the middle of the room. The sun was already gone, the moon lighting up the room. She shook the blankets a bit and got under.

"Simon?"

She called out, sitting up a bit in the bed. It had been such a long time since she had felt the comfort of a soft mattress. The man she was calling out to walked over to the side of the bed, slightly tilting his head as if he was a confused puppy.

"Can you stay with me till I fall asleep? Its cold and you can go back to watch after..."

He sighed and kicked off his boots and tossed his vest aside. The two had gotten very close over the years, the struggle for life keeping them stuck together like glue. Well, she was the only other human he ever really saw. Maybe a few other people are on their way for a water source.

He got into bed with her, keeping a little bit of distance between the both of them. She sighed and moved closer to him, draping her arm over him. She looked up at him with pleading eyes, the same eyes he grew to love and cherish.

"Don't look at me like that."

"Oh shut up, you love me."

(2nd person pov)

You groaned, dragging your feet through the grass, kicking away sticks and rocks. You had been walking for hours and it was getting tiring. Your calves burned from carrying you for so long. You caught up to Simon, tugging on his sleeve.

"Can we take a break, my legs are burning. I want water."

"I know but I think that there's a water source around here if this map is right."

He marked the spots we had passed on the map, tracing where we would be heading next.

You groaned and kept following his footsteps, your legs still burning every single step you took. You kept your grip firm on his sleeve so he wouldn't let you fall behind.

You heard a grunt come from him before he stopped in his tracks.

"Quit holding onto me, you're slowing me down."

You stuck your tongue out at him and let go, kicking the ground in annoyance.

"Let me hold your hand then. Maybe I won't be so slow"

You muttered, no response from the man in front of you. He kept walking, you trailing behind him just staring at the ground that you didn't even notice his hand being held out to the side for you.

"(Y/N)."

He snapped his fingers, getting your attention quickly. You looked up and smiled, catching up with him and lacing your fingers with his. His pace slowed down a bit to make you more comfortable. The forest you both were in was far away from where people used to reside so you both had your guard down, the walk semi-peaceful.

The sound of rushing water, making your body gain some kind of stored up energy. Running towards the sound, pushing past leaves and plants and onto the soft sandy edge of the small waterfall.

"Water! Simon, we made it"

You giggled, kicking off your shoes and socks, taking off your shirt and pants. You tossed them aside with the rest of your stuff. The waters were crystal clear and you could see the rocks that laid on the bottom of the pool of water. It was beautiful, the bodies of water you usually saw were murky or full of toxic waste from the factories that dumped into them.

Simon stood back, a slight smile on his face as he watched you jump into the water and splash around. You pulled the hair out of your face and waved at him to get in. He only shook his head, not really wanting to get into the water.

"Come on, just have a little bit of fun!"

"Not now."

You got out of the water and shook off a bit, walking towards him and putting your hands under his shirt. He sighed and dropped what he was carrying, unbuckling his belt and dropping the belt to the ground. You smiled and lifted his shirt off of him, tossing it to where your clothing lay.

As soon as he was just in his boxers you pulled him towards the water, walking into the middle and waiting for him to follow. He stood at the edge of a while, contemplating if he should get in or not. You rolled your eyes and dunked yourself under, shaking off the water when you came back up.

You looked to where Simon had been standing but he wasn't there, glancing around you shrugged when he wasn't anywhere you could currently see.

"Behind you."

His arms wrapped around you, pulling you close to his chest. You smiled looking up at his face, a slight smirk formed on his lips. Ah..Shit.

His hand went over your mouth and nose before falling back, taking you under the water with him. You struggled in his grasp but he let go of you quickly. You stood up in the water, coughing and taking in as much air as you could.

"You almost killed me! What the fuck was that for!"

You spat out the water that had gotten into your mouth, you were pissed.

"My bad."

He laughed, moving into the shallow area and sitting there, playing with the rocks.

"I swear to god this is why I never have any fun with you."

You crossed your arms and got out of the water, grabbing your backpack and taking out a dry shirt and shorts.

"Really? Says the one who was crying out my name a couple of days ago."
