She was gone for the weekend. Nothing new there. Once a month (Y/N) would go out of town to visit her grandmother in Philly. She was the only family the young girl had left, and I knew it was best for her to get away from this craziness every once in a while.
But she didn't like to be away for too long. So I called her every night she was away to keep her updated on the events happening here at home.
"It's getting late, sweetheart." I said into my phone. "You should be getting some sleep."
She let out a deep sigh. "I know I should but... " She trailed.
"But what, baby?" I questioned but I already knew what her answer was going to be.
(Y/N) never liked sleeping alone. Not since the day I met her. Her dreams weren't dreams when she did have to sleep alone, they were night terrors. The poor girl couldn't ever get much rest when on her mini-vacations.
"I just... I don't want to go to sleep without you." She confessed.
I knew how she was feeling but I also heard the pure grogginess in her voice. She was beyond tired and was all but fighting it off. Soon she would be defeated and pass out. But I knew it would take a good minute or two.
"I know, but just keep the phone by your head, cuddle up to a pillow, and turn off the light. It'll make it seem like I'm right there with you. Besides, it's only one more night, then you'll be home." I assured her as I got ready to settle in for the night myself.
I could hear the rustling of her moving around and getting everything situated.
"True, but it needs to fly by because I can't take much more of this being away from you." She stated.
To be honest, I hated being away from her just as much as she did. I hated her not being in my grasp to where I knew she was safe. Hated her not being next to me at night. But I also knew her not being in Mystic Falls for a little while was good not only for her but for her sanity as well.
So I sighed and responded, "You and me both, baby. You and I both."
It was quiet for a moment, which let me know she was at least trying to get some sleep.
"Hey, Stefan?" Her voice rang out through the silence.
"Yes (Y/N/N)?"
"I love you. You know that, right?"
I smiled to myself as she spoke. "Yes, baby, and you know that I love you too, right?"
"Mhmm." She hummed as she started to let sleep overcome her for the night.
"Goodnight, (Y/N)." I said, laying my phone next to my head like I had told her to do minutes beforehand.
"Night, Stef."
With that, we both fell asleep within a few moments of each other.
