The sun hung low in the sky as Ric stepped into the cozy living room of the Salvatore Boarding School. The warm, golden rays painted the room with a soothing glow, casting elongated shadows on the walls. YN, his best friend, lay on the couch, wrapped in a blanket despite the mild summer day outside. Her normally vibrant face was pale, and her usually lively eyes were dulled by sickness.
Alaric's concern was evident as he approached her. He had always been there for his friends, and YN was no exception. Their friendship had weathered many storms, both literal and metaphorical, and he was determined to support her through this one.
"Hey there," He greeted softly, offering a warm smile as he took a seat by her side. "How are you feeling?"
YN managed a weak smile, her voice barely a whisper. "Not great, Ric. This flu is really kicking my butt."
He nodded empathetically, his gaze moving to the small coffee table where a bowl of soup and a glass of water were set. "I brought you some homemade chicken soup. Thought it might help."
"Thanks," she said, her voice filled with gratitude. "You're a lifesaver."
Distant laughter echoed from the hallway, announcing the arrival of Lizzie and Josie Saltzman, Alaric's twin daughters. They breezed into the room with a playful energy that contrasted with YN's current state. The twins exchanged knowing glances with Alaric, and he offered them a subtle nod, acknowledging their presence without disrupting the moment.
"We brought you a little get-well gift," Lizzie said with a mischievous grin, holding up a bag of DVDs.
Josie joined in, her eyes sparkling. "Movie marathon to lift your spirits!"
YN chuckled softly, touched by their thoughtfulness. "You guys are the best."
As the evening turned into night, the four friends settled into a comfortable routine. Alaric sat by YN's side, occasionally chatting with the twins as they popped in one movie after another. YN's laughter and banter grew more animated, the movies acting as a temporary distraction from her illness.
During a brief intermission, Alaric leaned closer to YN. "How about a promise? Once you're back on your feet, we'll plan a day out – just the two of us. Your choice."
YN's eyes brightened with a mix of gratitude and anticipation. "Deal. I'll hold you to that."
As the night wore on, YN's energy waned, and she nestled deeper into her blanket. Alaric noticed her fatigue and gently covered her with another blanket, tucking her in as if she were his own family.
"I'll be right by your side, YNN," he assured her, his voice a comforting murmur. "Until you're feeling better."
YN's eyelids grew heavy, her exhaustion finally winning out as she nodded in acknowledgment. With Alaric steadfastly by her side and the support of her friends, she knew she would overcome this bout of sickness, just as she had overcome countless challenges before. And in that moment, surrounded by warmth and care, YN found solace in the bonds of friendship that had stood the test of time.
