He didn't know what all of what happened to her. But he knew he would someday when she was ready to tell him. Until then, Alaric was happy she was alive and home where she was supposed to be. What he did know (y/n) went through hell and back while in Kai's hold. The bastard took her and some of her friends hostage and held them for days. She was the only one who made it out alive.

(Y/n), as you can imagine, was tortured at Kai's hand and now was cutting herself off from everyone, even her father. She was Alaric's pride and joy, his best friend, and to see his little girl so shut off when she had never been before, hurt him more than anyone would ever know. Damon has been down a lot lately because his 'niece' was not her cheery, go-lucky self anymore. He didn't like it in the least.

Alaric had watched his daughter all day as she cautiously did everything around their house that she would normally do, so quickly you would have never known that she was in the room. Now she was struggling to do her everyday things without permission. It hurt Alaric to know that this was her home, and whatever Kai had done messed her brain up so bad that she was now acting like it was a stranger's house.

The Saltzman man stood at the doorway while her back was to it while she studied. Close enough to keep an eye on her, but far enough away to where he wouldn't scare her when she turned around. But, much to his dismay, she still did when he knocked on the door frame.

"Sorry, sweetheart. Didn't mean to scare you." He apologized.

(Y/n) relaxed when she realized it was just her father standing there. "It's okay, it's just going to take me a while to get readjusted to everyday life. Unfortunately..." She hated that she jumped at every sound she heard.

The Saltzman girl hated that she wasn't the same person anymore. All because of what Kai had done to her. Everything Alaric hated, she hated about ten times more. It irritated her to her core that she couldn't bounce back as quickly as she wanted to. All she wanted was to be okay again.

"What you got going on in here, baby?" Alaric questioned as he walked into the room and sat at the foot of her bed.

She sighed and turned back to her desk. "Just homework. Jeremy stopped by the school and grabbed everything for me earlier."

"That's nice of him." Alaric said.

(Y/n) nodded. Ever since she returned, everyone has been walking on eggshells around her, without making it seem like they were. She knew that it was just as hard for them just like it was for her, but they all made sure to do everything they could for her. Alaric signed her up for online classes, so she wouldn't have to face her teachers or the other students until she was ready to do so. Damon would bring her a variety of her favorite meals for lunch every day while her father was at work. Jeremy helped her with schoolwork and everything else he could. Most of her clothes didn't fit her anymore so once a week, Caroline took her shopping to replace the new baggy clothing in her closet. Everyone did something to remind her that she was in fact home.

"Daddy? Why'd he do it? Why them? They knew nothing, so why them and not me?" The young girl questioned. Ric could see the tears start to well up in her eyes.

He stood from his seat and wrapped her in a tight embrace. "I don't know, sweetheart. But I'm glad he didn't take you. My life wouldn't be complete without you in it."

Ric stood there with his daughter in his arms for what seemed like an eternity. "I miss them, Daddy." she cried.

"I know, baby. I know." He could only imagine what that sick bastard put her through, not that he wanted to.

Ric was there the night they found the girls in the lake. The water on the bank was reddened slightly from their blood. (Y/n) sat on the base of a big tree wrapped in a blanket just staring at the scene of the lifeless bodies of her friends laying in front of her. Damon held onto her tightly, as if she would disappear again if he were to let her go. There was no expression on her face. His daughter was like a blank canvas.

It all came back to her in bursts. Each memory is worse than the last. All too painful for her heart and mind to bear. But for Alaric, it was excruciating to watch her have to cope with no way to help her through it.

"Will I be okay again?" she questioned.

"Yes. Yes, (y/n), you will be okay. Don't ever doubt that. Yes, it may take some time but, (y/n/n), you are so strong. You will get through this and I, Damon, Jeremy, and everyone else will be here every step of the way."
