Niklaus noticed the (Y/N) had been a little off for the past few days. She had been keeping to herself a lot even during their weekly lunch. A time when they would put everything they were feeling, doing, planned to do out on the table. But she barely said a word. He couldn't figure out what it was that bound her mind and mouth both shut. Klaus didn't care for too many people but (Y/N/N) was at the top of the list of people he did.

She was never one to stay to herself when it came to Niklaus. The girl would tell the Mikaelson brother everything because he was her closest friend. So, it was very unusual for her to stay to herself when he was around. It worried the hybrid. (Y/N) was his best friend and considering he didn't have many friends, he held her and her friendship very close.

Klaus walked down the hallway to her room and knocked on the door. He waited for her to open it but after standing there for a minute and she still hadn't answered, the Mikaelson boy listened into the room. He could hear the tapping of computer keys which told him she was alive in there. Just that gave him a small bit of relief. He knocked one more time but (Y/N) still did not answer the door. So he opened it himself and walked in.

The (Y/H/C) haired beauty was sitting at her desk typing away with earbuds in her ear. 'Explains why she didn't hear me knock.' Klaus thought to himself. So he walked up beside her desk staying in the line of her peripheral vision in hopes of not scaring her when he reached her. It seemed to work because when she saw him walk up, she took out her earbuds.

"Hey." She said.

"Hello, love. I didn't mean to interrupt but I did knock." Klaus explained.

"Oh, you did? I'm sorry, Nik. I've been working on this paper for school for the past few days and the only way I can seem to focus on it is with music. I didn't want to disturb anyone so I had my earbuds in the whole time. Again, I'm sorry, Nik." (Y/N) explained with a guilty smile.

"Is that why you've been so cut off from everyone, love? A school essay?" He questioned and took a seat on the foot of her bed.

She scrunched her lips to the side for a moment before answering. "You noticed that?"

Klaus nodded. "It's kind of hard to miss, (Y/N/N). You have barely come out of your room. Barely said anything at lunch this afternoon. We were all getting worried that something was really wrong."

"I'm sorry. It's just forty percent of my grade and I've been trying to get it done so I won't have to worry about it any longer. I wasn't about to miss our weekly lunch but the more time we talked, the longer it would take to get back to this. I'm almost done though. It's not quite finished but it definitely will be by lunchtime tomorrow. Then I will be back to normal." She explained.

"Do you want to tell me what this paper is even about?" The hybrid questioned.

"The day my life changed." She stated.

Klaus nodded and said, "I'd assumed you are writing about the day your parents died."

(Y/N) shook her head slightly. "I really did think about it, but there would be a lot of details left out since most of the world doesn't realize that vampires really do exist. But, no, I'm writing about the day I met you." She said with a smile.

"The day we met?" He questioned.

(Y/N) nodded. "Of course, I, yet again, not everyone knows hybrids exist either so some parts are definitely left out. But I have been able to seemingly tie it all together with loose threads. Meeting you during the roughest part of my life has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. Though I do believe a lot of the others would disagree but they don't live my life so what do they know? Best friends need recognition sometimes too." The (Y/E/C) eyed girl said with a smile.

"Well then you must let me read this paper when you are finished." He smiled back at her.

(Y/N) nodded again. "When it's done, you'll be the first to know."

"Well I'll let you get back to it, love. Let me know if you need anything." Klaus said then walked over to her and kissed the top of her head.

"I will." She assured him and turned back to her computer.

Klaus walked out of the room with a smile. He was glad that nothing was wrong and she was just too focused. Niklaus made a mental note to keep that in mind for the future when she became closed off.
