(Y/N) looked so tired when she came downstairs this morning. It looked like she didn't sleep a wink last night. I didn't question her about it because I didn't want her to shut me out like she's known to do. But I could see the dark circles under (Y/N)'s eyes and she was sluggishly walking around the house.
I made her a cup of coffee just the way she liked it and took it over to her at her spot on the couch. "Looks like you may need this." I say, as I had heard the cup of coffee, and sit down beside her.
"Ric, you are my hero." (Y/N) says, gripping the mug with both hands. "Gonna be living on caffeine all day."
After taking a sip of my coffee, I ask, "Why would that be?"
(Y/N/N) sighed. "Had a rough night. My peaceful night sleep with seriously lacking the peace and the sleep."
"Wanna talk about it? If not, it's OK."
She was quiet for a moment, just staring into her coffee cup. I wasn't about to push her into talking about it. It wasn't my place to do so. (Y/N) was my friend and roommate, so I worried about her, but pushing her to talk was never a good idea.
"The nightmares have started to come back. I thought they were gone for good but then they came back with vengeance. It got to the point that every time I would close my eyes I would see him standing there over her with a smile on his face." She said as tears started to form in her eyes.
I knew who she was talking about. It was a topic I tried to avoid with her as much as possible, unless (Y/N) was the one to bring it up. The man that killed her sister all those years ago. The man who has tortured her thoughts since then. The man who Damon and I sought out and killed for doing what he did to her and her sister. I knew that guy was never going to hurt her again, but I can't stop the nightmares.
"He can't hurt you anymore, (Y/N/N). He can't get to you. It's OK." I say, and pull her to me.
"I know, but the scenes themselves scare me more than he ever did. Her blood was everywhere. On him, on me, on the trees and the grass. I'll never forget it all. It will help me to the end of my days." (Y/N) said matter-of-factly.
"Why don't we make a deal, OK?" I questioned, after a few moments of silence between us. "Every time the nightmares return, you come to my room. You don't even have to say anything just come on in and lay down with me. If it helps or even if it doesn't, the offer will always be there. He doesn't get to run over you from the grave, (Y/N/N). I won't allow it. What do you say? We got a deal?"
"You don't have to do that, Ric. I don't wanna keep you up all the time if it doesn't work." The (Y/E/C) eyed girl confessed as she wipes the tears from her eyes.
"You're right. I don't have to, but I want to. If it means you get to sleep you need, then, sweetheart, is what we're going to do." I say and kiss the side of her head. "Your mental and physical health are more important to me than he could have ever been."
"Are you sure?" She questioned.
I gave her a simple nod and said "Of course and it starts tonight. Because unfortunately, for the both of us, I have to get to work before I'm late." Giving her another small kiss on the side of her head, I stood from my spot and gathered all the graded papers and other supplies that I would need throughout the day. "Think you'll be OK till I get home?"
(Y/N) give me a small nod. "If I'm not, I know where to find you and Damon."
I nodded. "Good." I said, and with that hit it out the door.
There's no doubt in my mind that I will think about it and worry about (Y/N/N) throughout my day. But she knows I'm here for her no matter what I'm doing.
