"We need to talk about last night," Stefan said, his voice tinged with concern as he stared at me intently after walking up to my usual spot at the bar inside the grill.
I sighed, knowing exactly what he was referring to. Last night had been a whirlwind of emotions, and now the consequences were staring me, and mostly my brother as well, right in the face. I never thought I'd be feeling this way about someone again, not after everything that had happened with Katherine and Elena. But YN YLN had managed to change all of that all over again.
I looked over at Stefan, my younger brother, and nodded. "Yeah, we do," I said as I got off my stool and threw some cash down to cover my tab.
As the two of us made our way back home, where YN had taken refuge undoubtedly, thoughts raced through my mind. How could I be falling for her? And to make matters more complicated, Stefan had also developed feelings for her too. It wasn't something we had anticipated, but now there was no denying the truth. Something I didn't think I would get myself into again with my brother, but here we are for the third time around.
Entering the dimly lit living room, we found YN sitting on the couch with her laptop resting in her lap and those glasses that fit the shape of her face just right, her eyes filling with worry as we walked up to her. "What's going on?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Her timid personality showed through more than I believe she planned it to.
Stefan took a deep breath and began, "Last night, Damon and I realized something. We both care about you, YN. More than we thought possible."
YN looked stunned, her gaze shifting between Stefan and me as she tried to decipher in her head the words coming out of his mouth. "Wait... are you saying..."
"Yes," I interrupted, my voice gentle yet resolute. "We're both in love with you, YNN. And we need to figure out how to navigate this strange new territory without tearing ourselves apart. More or less for you than ourselves."
She blinked rapidly, trying to process our words like they were some kind of dead language she couldn't understand. "But... how can this work? I can't choose between the two of you."
I reached out and took her hand, my touch comforting. "We're not asking you to choose sweetheart. We just need to find a way for all three of us to exist together, without any resentment or jealousy tearing us apart."
Stefan nodded in agreement. "Damon and I want to be there for you, YN, no matter what life throws our way. We both see something special in you, something worth fighting for."
Tears welled up in YN's eyes as she squeezed my hand tightly. "I never expected this... I also never thought I could feel this way about two people at the same time. Feelings that have been there from the very beginning, I suppose. Just didn't notice them before. Now that you guys have come forward with your own, I guess they have decided to make themselves evident."
I brushed a stray tear away from her cheek, a small smile playing on my lips. "Love doesn't always follow the rules, YNN. And sometimes, it takes us by surprise. Those no one's words you can trust more than our own."
Stefan let out a chuckle and nodded in agreement. "Seems we have done it enough times to know."
As the three of us sat there, Stefan and I having intertwined our hands with hers, we knew that obstacles lay ahead. But we were determined to face them together.
