(Y/N) was waiting tables tonight as he was bartending. Matt couldn't focus on the work in front of him because, in all honesty, he missed her. He missed waking up in the mornings and rolling over to see her face. He missed coming home when they worked different shifts and seeing her smile as he walked through the door. But he was glad he was still able to see her every so often when they were working the same shift. Some days, though, he wished he hadn't messed up the best thing that ever happened to him.
At the end of her shift, Stefan walked in to pick her up, just like he had done every day since she had moved back into the boarding house. Throughout the whole break up between (Y/N) and Matt, Stefan and Damon had told him they didn't hold anything against him. But ever since it happened he had just felt out of place with their whole friend group.
"Hey, are you ready to go home?" Her uncle asked.
(Y/N) gave him a nod. "Yeah, just give me a minute and I'll go get everything." She said.
Matt had noticed the first time he saw her after their fight, that she hadn't sounded like the same cheerful girlish always had. He missed that and all he wanted to do was make it right but hadn't quite figured out had to do that yet. The blue-eyed boy watched as the young girl made her way to the backroom to put away her work supplies in her locker. When she did, the younger Salvatore brother walked over to him.
"Hey, man. How are you holding up?" He asked.
Matt raised his eyebrows for a moment and tilted his head slightly to the side. "Barely, but enough to get through most days." The Donovan boy paused for a moment and then looked at his friend. "I want to make it right, Stefan. I know having Sarah over without at least telling her first was all kinds of wrong of me. Plus the way she had sat so close to me definitely made it worse. But I didn't mean for the argument to happen let alone get out of hand the way that it did. I feel like an ass and I'm missing (Y/N/N) like crazy, man." He admitted.
The Salvatore boy nodded. "Trust me, I get it. I can tell you that you weren't the only one who caused the argument to get too heated. (Y/N) has a temper on her and we can truly thank Damon for that one. He has always been a bad influence on her. But, hey, swing by the house when you get off. Then you can actually talk to her and work things out. She misses you too, ya know? Damon and I can both see it."
Matt gave Stefan a slight nod. "Okay. I'll do that."
Just then (Y/N) came out of the back roman went behind the bar to grab her purse that she still allows Matt to look after during their shifts together because she knows he'd never let anything happen to it. "Alright. I'm out for the night." She said letting him know that she was done for the day.
"Okay, you guys be safe." He said as he always had.
"See you later, Matt." Stefan called out behind them as they walked out.
Once they were out of sight, over walked Sarah. He hadn't even noticed that she was there tonight but she had obviously been there for a while watching everything from afar. When she got over to the bar, she sat in the seat right in front of Matt.
"I don't understand why she still works here." Said the brunette now sitting before him.
Matt lowered his head in order to focus on cleaning the back counter. "She's great with the customers and they love her."
Sarah scoffed. "Yeah, but she's your ex and you're the manager. Can't you, like, fire her or something?"
He shook his head. "I don't hold that power and even if I did, I wouldn't just because we aren't together anymore. I'm not gonna complain to the owner about her either. (Y/N/N) has always been able to keep home and work life separate and as long as she continues to do so, as well as be kind to our customers then there's really no reason to let her go." He said as he kept cleaning.
