Klaus didn't care for too many people but they were something about (Y/N) (Y/L/N) that made him want to protect her with his life. But there was one issue. He was worried he couldn't save her from herself. When it came to vampires, werewolves, or witches, Niklaus could take them on with no problem. But (Y/N/N)'s mental health was a whole different story.
She wasn't on the verge of a mental breakdown by no means. Though she did make Klaus worry at times. (Y/N) would get in those depressed moods. Sometimes, most of the time it would seem to come out of nowhere. The (Y/E/C) eyed girl with close herself in her room and wouldn't talk to anyone around her. It worried him to know that he can't protect her from everything he wants to.
Today, though it wasn't her thoughts that held her captive. It was her dreams. (Y/N) had fallen asleep in the den on the couch. Niklaus watched her every move as she slept with her head in his lap. It has only been about an hour since the young (Y/H/C) haired girl had fallen asleep, but he could feel her body start tensing up and then untensing from 10 minutes into her slumber. It was getting worrisome the more it went on.
Klaus tried to calm the dreams with a gentle hand running up and down her arm. He would give anything to make them all go away for her. (Y/N) was the light at the end of the tunnel for the Mikaelson boy and to witness her going through her own darkness with no choice, but to bear at all until it was over, was very upsetting for him.
Her tensing went on for a while longer until it stopped but then it turned into small, silent whimpers. It was no longer a bad dream, and it was very evident to Klaus. It was a nightmare. The blue-eyed man knew better than to wake someone from a nightmare like (Y/N) was having, but he didn't know just how much more he could take. It was his own kind of torture.
He began to hush her quietly and kept the gentle movements of his hand on her arm. Though it calmed the (Y/H/C) haired girl slightly it wasn't enough to dissipate the fear completely. But at that point, a little is better than nothing.
Another hour had passed before (Y/N/N)'s whimpers started to pick back up, but this time she started to jerk. Then the jerking turned into thrashing.
"(Y/N)? Love, it's OK. You're safe." he said to her in a worried, yet calm voice trying not to wake her yet calm her down. But much to his dismay, it didn't work.
(Y/N)'s thrashing had become more violent. Her whimpers became screams. Soon enough Elijah and Rebekah were rushing into the room with them.
"What's going on?" Rebekah questioned with a worried look that mimicked one of her older brother's.
"Nightmares. She's having a nightmare and though I'm quite used to the concept, this is the worst when I have seen anyone go through." Klaus said.
Rebekah watched her friend as she thrashed back and forth. (Y/N/N)'s screams were almost as if she was in great pain. "Nik, wake her up!" She explained that she continued to watch the (Y/H/C) hair girl.
"You don't just wake someone having a nightmare, Rebekah." Elijah piped up. "It could cause them more harm than good." he said, turning his attention back to the young girl on the couch.
"Precisely. She's got to wake up on her own. In, though it pains me to let her go through this, sooner or later (Y/N) will wake up or the night terrible run its course and she'll be able to have a peaceful sleep once again." Klaus explained to his sister.
Rebekah crossed her arms across her chest. "It doesn't seem right to let her go through it. She doesn't deserve it."
Klaus nodded in agreement with her sister. "I agree, but (Y/N)'s tough and she'll get through it." he believe the words that he was speaking, but as he watched the girl in his lap, Niklaus began to worry how long it would go on.
"That she is." Said the oldest Mikaelson. "Watch over her, Niklaus. If it wakes her up, she'll need you."
"Trust me, brother, I'm not letting her out of my sight." Klaus said matter-of-factly.
After a few more minutes Rebekah and Elijah left the room. Klaus continue trying to comfort (Y/N) the best he could. He even tried to get into her mind to defuse the situation that way, but it seemed that the night terror was so bad that her mind was blocked off from outside sources.
"I wish I could do more to help you, love. But I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere." he whispered to (Y/N) as he started to run his fingers through her hair.
A few more minutes passed before (Y/N) finally awoken a jerk, sitting up straight and looking around her frantically. Klaus laid a gentle hand on her shoulder, to which she jerked her attention to him.
"Woah, (Y/N/N). It was only a dream. None of it was real. OK? Just a dream." he said, as he pulled her into his embrace.
The (Y/E/C) I girl was still frantic for a moment, but when she felt Klaus' arms wrapped around her, (Y/N) calmed down. He could hear her heart beating quickly, but the more he comforted her the slower it got.
"I've got you, love. It was only just a dream." Klaus repeated this phrase until (Y/N/N) I completely calmed down.
It killed the Mikaelson boy that he couldn't read the nightmares away for the young (Y/L/N) girl, but he made a mental promise to her and himself that he would always be there to calm her every time she'll woke from one. Where she was his light in the dark it was time for him to be hers.
