She looked at his receding form quietly. She tried to spare him from this agony long ago. She wanted him to marry a mortal and experience a normal married life but he was relentless!

"Imperial Mother, is my Imperial Father mad at me?" Prince Vincent worriedly asked his loving mother after his dear father completely ignored him.

"No. Your Imperial Father has some serious problems these days. Just be more patient and understanding, okay?" She gently assured the young man and playfully patted his head.

"Is there any way I could help him?" He hurriedly asked. He did not like it when his old man was either angry or sad.

"Just concentrate on your studies so your Imperial Father will be proud of you. "

"Okay. I will do my best! I won't let you and Imperial Father down! "The young man agreed immediately as his father was always busy monitoring his progress.

"Son, can I ask you a favor?"

"Yes. What is it?"

"As soon as your Imperial Father comes back and seems okay, tell him I went to Sky Empire to visit an old friend... Tell him I will come back as soon as I can. " She wanted to tell him earlier but their conversation went south and now he is in a terrible mood. It is not a great time to discuss and fight... The time is running out!

She arrived in Sky Empire in a matter of seconds. She walked slowly under the bleak weather perfectly representing her emotions and those of the people inside the palace.

She wanted to feel happy and proud as her eyes scanned the incredible things he achieved when she was no longer around. As she expected, he worked so hard and used his intellect to excel and exceed the expectations. She knew he could do it very well and she was right! If this was any other day, she would tour the palace with him and tease him about his achievements but she could no longer do that now.

She was not in the mood, not only because of her recent disagreement with Viktor, it was mainly because Aiden would not last very long...

She knew it long ago and did not wish to see him in his dying state, which is why she could not appear in front of him. It was never a question of ability. It was whether she wanted to do it or not... Or more like, whether she had the guts to do it while her mind was very chaotic and her heart was aching...

Suddenly, she did not want to face him!

The fear she felt long ago returned with a vengeance! And now, she wants to regret that she made a vow to see him before he dies...

At that moment, she hesitated to continue... After all, she could still flee and return to the Solaris Empire...

So she could hide and avoid it...

Treat it like she could forget about it...

Or it is not happening and her fear will never happen if she was not around to witness it...

It was a pity that she could not just forget and avoid it! A part of her did not want to see his current state but another part of her longed to see him again!

She saw the group of imperial guards, eunuchs, and servants bowing in one direction, paying homage to their great monarch who would depart at any moment from this world...

She clenched her fist so hard. Seeing their sad expression and their respectful gesture while unintentionally hearing their inner thoughts made her feel more anxious...The last thing she needed was a bunch of people rubbing the ugly truth to her face! Her heart trembled and suddenly, she was unprepared for what was to come.

She did not bother to greet anyone. She continued walking silently towards his bedchamber. No one tried to stop her, not his imperial children or even their mothers. Everyone was very still and silent as they were also expecting her arrival.

She knew this was his imperial order... His final wish! And he was known by his subjects for being strict when it came to law and discipline. With his merit system and a zero-tolerance policy, he maintained peace and sustained improvements within his empire, especially inside the imperial palace.

Her mind was busy considering several prohibited options while her heart was so heavy and confused, in this state she failed to notice that she was already at his bedside...

"Psi... glad...you... came... " The ninety-one-year-old Emperor Aiden said weakly. His voice was almost like a whisper and his thin, wrinkly hand tried to reach her.

"Yes, Aiden... I'm back..." She nodded gently and quietly examined him.

She looked at his old and wrinkly face then to his labored breathing and finally, to his extremely thin stature, particularly his bony arms and hands trying to reach her... Her heart trembled as she recognized that some feelings were deeper and stronger than what the eyes could see.
