District 8 was an underdog district, they were poor, they didn't have a lot, their victors were never really promising, they didn't have the best luck when it came to the games. They weren't careers, they didn't have secret advantages like District 7 would have with their skills with axes.

They were just Eight. Their one advantage was climbing, their balance was like no other District.

Everyone believed that District 8 were the losers, their tributes were always ignored because they weren't as lethal or dangerous, and they had only ever had two Victors in their time. They weren't as bad as some districts but still bad.

People realised how wrong they were when Bex Dreesen won her games.

The fifteen year old that became the youngest female winner, scoring only a six. She didn't think she would win, nobody did, but when it came down to it she was stronger than she thought possible.

She did what she needed to just like any other tribute.
She followed her mentor Cecilia's advice, she stuck with her partner, made a few alliances, let everyone else take each other out, let them forget about the District 8 tributes.

Death from above. They hid. Killed anyone they saw. Then disappeared. It was a good strategy. One that worked.

No one saw them coming. And no one saw them leave.

Bex won the 66th Hunger Games, Leith was older than Bex only by three years but during their time hiding during the games, they had gotten closer. Bex didn't know at what point Leith decided that he wasn't going to get out of the games but he was going to make sure that Bex did.

She was told that if she won the Hunger Games, she could live the rest of her life in peace, but they all lied to her. After her Victory, the President knew exactly what he was going to do with her, forcing her into a ring that very few victors are a part of.

She didn't comply at first, she fought her way out and she did something that she should regret, but she didn't.

But that one mistake ruined any chances she had of being happy. She lost her family. The people who's feelings of her never changed when she was in the Games.

But she did make a new one. Amongst the mentors. The previous Victors. Surrounded by the same people since you were fifteen does something to a person, everyone who mentored knew what the others had gone through.

Some of them became a family more than others. Some stayed out of each others ways. Some picked fights but most of them protected each other.

The Victor Alliance.

Bex was a Victor, she had been shot down, built back up, reshaped into the Capitol's image. But what Snow didn't count on was just how much anger Bex had.

Bex wasn't the first Dreesen that Snow had met in his life. Just the name made him think back to a time he wanted to erase, a person, a Game that he wanted to erase.

But he ignored it. Made Bex his little puppet in a half baked revenge plan on the previous Dreesens that were long gone.
