Tributes were now dropping like flies. Leaving only Isla and the District One Tributes. Bex walked into the Mentor Lounge and saw Gloss asleep on the couch, "Wakey wakey, Nicholo!" Bex called as she hit Gloss's legs
"Reb, what the fuck" Gloss groaned as he rubbed his eyes and sat up
"You sleep like a child, did you know that?" Bex said as she sat down on the couch, "You drool and take up all the space, sometimes you snore like you're sawing through a damn tree. Cash told me but I didn't think it was that bad."
"You could've just let me sleep" he mumbled as he put his legs on Bex's lap and laying back on the couch, "When did you get back anyways?"
"Few hours ago, what about you?" Bex asked, knowing he probably had a client, she did. And she knew Finnick was still out with his.
"Same" he yawned, "I took a shower and promised Cash I'd keep an eye on the games whilst she was napping"
Bex gave him a look, "And instead you just fell asleep? Tut-tut-tut, bad mentor"
"Please don't talk to me like I am a dog"
Bex noticed that he was moving a bit stiff and looed like he was in pain when he put his arm under the back of his head, "Rough night?"
"Hmm"
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Bex tried and Gloss shook his head. They were in the same game after all if there was anyone who was going to understand it would be her.
"I'd rather just forget" he mumbled
So instead, Bex leaned forward, grabbed the remote and turned the volume of the games up.
It would seem like District One Tributes changed their strategy were searching for Isla.
"Go get Cash."
"She's asl-"
Bex cut him off, "I'd cut your balls off if you didn't wake me up for this. Go!"
Gloss did as he was told and practically rolled off of the couch before running out of the lounge, "Just hide. Just hide." Bex muttered
The District One Tributes knew that Isla was trained by Bex, they still had the caution of her mentor in the back of their mind. They didn't want a repeat of the District Two situation. Not that Bex thought that in that moment Isla had it in her
With Isla hiding out on the first floor of a building with a great view of the streets below, she was at the advantage when the final Careers made their way through the streets.
They weren't watching their backs. Isla noticed that.
That is where they made a big mistake.
"Gloss!" Bex shouted, figuring that the District One Mentors were on their way back, something was about to happen, Bex knew it
Before they knew it, the male Tribute screamed out in pain as his foot got stuck in a bear trap, set by Trench. It would be impossible to rip himself from the thing unless he wanted his foot to be ripped off.
Cashmere and Gloss ran into the room followed by some of the other Mentors, Finnick, Mags, Haymitch, Nash, Chaff and Johanna. They were all there to watch the finale.
"Damn." Finnick whistled when a knife flew straight into Gloss's tribute's head, a cannon blaring out
Bex looked at Cashmere, "You and me now, Cash."
"Come on then! Can't hide forever!"
Not many people had seen Isla since Trench, but now they knew what she had been doing. She had made that block into her own playing field, her own little arena. She had trapped the whole place.
"You're fucking annoying, you know that?"
Arachne from One couldn't see where Isla was she could only here her, "Fuck me...she's playing with her." The Mentors all watched as Isla was playing with the Career.
"You think you'll win because I can't see you. I will find you, Eight!" Arachne shouted
She just heard a laugh, "I don't think I'll win because you can't see me. I think I'll win because of who trained me!...she's the reigning champ after all."
Bex leaned forwards and leaned on her hands, she had never been so nervous. But Isla had mentioned her, that may have just been a very bad move on her part.
Caesar's voice happily narrated the sequence that follows. "It looks like District One is at the disadvantage here. Are District Eight going for the streak?"
"You're trapped out here with me!" Arachne shouted
Bex just shook her head, Arachne wasn't trapping Isla. She was trapping her.
A lot of the Districts had their own advantages. Four with water. Seven with axes and forests. Eight had an advantage of their own. They could climb, they were good with balance. Which was why this was a good arena for Isla to be in.
"There." Nash pointed to the screen when it switched to Isla quickly moving down a fallen piece of rubble, silently, Arachne couldn't hear or see her.
The Mentors were silent as Isla jumped down from where she was, Arachne turned around just in time and moved out of the way. Bex huffed in shock when she saw Isla pull out a sword from her side, she listened to her after all.
Nash was squeezing Bex's shoulder, there was still a bit of pain shooting down but Nash wasn't to know.
They all watched as the two final Tributes started to fight. Isla was nowhere near as good as Arachne but she was quick which gave her a slight advantage. Isla ducked under her opponents arm and slashed her up the stomach which stopped the District One Tribute for a second before she ran her through, straight through the back.
After that, everything felt like a blur.
Caesar's voice started to narrate, "And just like that Ladies and Gentlemen, the winner takes it all. The winner of the seventy-third annual Hunger Games is...District Eight's Isla Marriez!"
"Well well well..." Haymitch whistled, "How does it feel to finally be on a streak sweetheart?"
Isla had won. She was now in the Capitol eye, but she would never be in the eye like Bex was.
