Now was the time to play the game. It was a game of loyalty. Both Finnick and Bex wanted to call Johanna, but if Snow wasn't monitoring their calls before he would be after the previous day. But the two really needed to speak to Johanna, if the Triumvirate ever needed to be put into action then it would be then.

"How can you not swim. It makes no sense." Finnick laughed as he was making some food in the kitchen, he couldn't grasp the fact that she didn't know how to swim

Isla and Nash were sitting at the table playing a card game whilst Woof was on the couch reading a book and Bex was leaning on the counter watching Finnick, the District 8 Victors had stuck together since Snow had left the District, they were more on edge than normal, "I just can't. We're landlocked. We don't even have a lake. None of us can swim."

Finnick just shook his head, "Remind me to teach you."

Just then the door burst open, Isla and Nash stood up the second they noticed how pale Cecelia was, "What's wrong?" Bex asked as she turned around

"I uh...I just saw a man get whipped in the Square."

Bex shot up and Woof almost toppled off of the couch at how fast he moved, "What?!"

Cecelia nodded, "Peacekeepers are everywhere. Anyone caught outside after curfew will be shot."

Woof didn't even waste a second running out of the house, Bex didn't know where he was going but he seemed like it was important.

"Shitting hell." Bex, at that minute realised Finnick was still in her house. He had been there for so long that she had almost forgotten he wasn't there permanently, "You need to go back to Four." She told him, "If they find you here they will kill you, hide you and say you ran to Thirteen."

Finnick saw the fear in her eyes, he didn't want to leave her looking like that, he knew that look in her eyes all to well, "If that's what you want."

He backed out of the kitchen and walked for the stairs, "Finn, come on." Bex sighed as she followed after him

Nash just rolled his eyes as Cecelia sat on the couch, "Idiots." He muttered

Finnick was already packing some of his things into his bag, his expression was something that for once Bex couldn't read. She had always been able to figure him out, she knew every single look that he had. But this one she couldn't decipher.

"I don't want you to go." She said as she walked in shutting the door behind her, "I enjoy your company, Fisher Boy...more than I should, more than I have ever before. And definitely more than you want me to."

Finnick slightly smiled at the words he had said to her just days ago, but there was still something there. Bex took another step towards him, "I love you, you know I do. I'm not asking you to leave because I want you to."

Finnick nodded, "I know, I love you too, you know that."

"Then why do you look mad with me?"

Finnick scoffed shaking his head, "I don't think I've ever been angry with you."

Most people didn't see the Finnick that she did, Bex Dreesen could happily say she saw the Finnick Odair the Capitol people wished they could, she saw the human side of him, the kind, funny, kind side of him, "I...I'm tired of him taking things from us. Us surviving its not enough anymore. He takes what he wants and gives nothing back. He is keeping me from what I want and has been for years."

Bex gave him a look, "And what do you want? What's he been keeping you from?"

Finnick leaned down, their noses were touching. Bex never stopped looking into his eyes. They were both aware of what they were.

If he kissed her no one would know. But them. They had kissed before, but neither of them meant anything by it. But just by the look Bex was giving him and he was giving her.

They meant it. They finally meant it

Finnick sighed as he stepped back, "I think you already know."

Not even an hour later, Bex walked Finnick to the station. No one noticed him, and he got on the train before anyone could, before a Peacekeeper could check who he was.

He slipped through then he was gone.

But something had shifted, for Bex and for Finnick. Maybe District Eight wasn't the only thing changing.

Maybe almost ten years of friendship was changing as well. Bex couldn't help but think about Finnick had told her.

He is keeping me from what I want and has been for years.

What or who was he talking about?

Thank you for reading

These two are the slowest slowburn that have ever burned.

This book practically spans almost four years I think
