Bex liked to think she had a talent for avoiding people at parties, she knew how to make herself small enough that no one noticed her, but being a Victor that was very hard, especially when Colt was around. He knew she had a job for the night, they just didn't like to speak of it.
Sitting down in one of the seating areas of the party, Colt and Bex were sitting together, he was going to keep her with him until he couldn't anymore. He kept her safe for a good hour before a red haired man walked towards the seats. Colt gave her a small reassuring smile as he stood up and walked away.
"I've been thinking of getting to know you for what seems like hours. I'm Nikolai." He said as he sat down on the seats next to her, "The Golden Girl of District Eight. It's an honour."
Bex smiled, "Bex. Please. I hear the name Rebecca I look over my shoulder for my mother."
"Were you named after your mother?"
Small talk. Bex hated small talk more than she hated the Capitol which was saying something. All the same she knew how to do it and she knew how to act like she was enjoying what anyone was saying, her clients almost always wanted it to be slightly less awkward. They thought that if they got to know each other first it would be, "I was, yes."
Bex just wanted to leave to her room now, but there was a list of things to do before. There was a certain way of doing things, turning her head for two seconds she saw Finnick once against talking to the blue haired woman, he was a pro at it. He had helped her out, with teaching her how to survive these things
Nikolai smiled, "Your mother sounds like a beautiful woman. If you're anything to go by."
She was. Her mother was a beautiful person inside and out. When Bex returned from her games she half expected her family to disown her for what she had done, but they didn't. Their feelings didn't change, they loved her the same as they did when she left.
"Why have you been wanting to meet me then?" Bex asked, skipping a couple steps, the ones that weren't important but she wanted to get everything over with
Nikolai looked like it was a silly question but he smiled all the same, "Why doesn't anyone want to meet you? You, Bex Dreesen are one of my favourite Victors. Of all time. I remember your games. You showed strength and brains, you stuck it out until the end. You showed everyone what District Eight was made of, when we didn't really know much about your people. Especially after what happened to Leith, it touched everyone's hearts his sacrifice for you."
