They made it to the beach very quickly, none of them wanted to stay in the woods. Something about this arena didn't make sense. The fog, the mutts from the 66th, something wasn't right. Bex didn't know what it was but she was sure that it would become obvious soon enough.
The second Finnick even saw the water he sat down in it, letting the waves flow over and under him. He seemed more at peace than Bex had ever seen him.
"River?" Bex asked as she sat down next to him. Finnick just nodded.
River Odair, Finnick's little sister. The Capitol killed her a year after Finnick became a Victor. It took him a long time to be able to tell Bex her story, but just the fact that he had told her meant that he trusted her with his sister's memory.
And that meant a lot to her.
"It wasn't her. And it wasn't Leith or my dad. I know that. And if I know that. If I can tell the difference, then so can you."
Finnick looked at her, "You haven't told me something, have you?" Bex nodded, "Will you tell me?" She nodded again, "Then that's all that matters."
Bex looked down in the sand and saw Finnick draw a 1. She just nodded, she let him know that Cashmere and Gloss were still on their side, "When I saw you...on the broadcast...I didn't know what to do, Woof just kind of stared at the ground. But I didn't know how to feel or to act because...Bex you've always been here. You've always been with me, the thought of you not being by my side...I didn't like that."
Bex didn't know if he was saying that the show, but just the way he was looking at her told her otherwise. But she felt the same. She had always had Finnick by her side, ever since she became a Victor, she had him.
He taught her how to be a Victor, how to act, how to get Sponsors. He was worried about her when she disappeared and even more concerned when she came back different. He noticed when there was something wrong, he knew when she was going to snap without even knowing why.
She knew every little thing about him, and he knew almost everything about her.
"I knew that you were alive but...I would have felt the same, you know I would. I don't think I'd be the person I am if it wasn't for you."
