"Alright, here's the plan."
Isla and Bex were sitting in Bex's room on the couch, they didn't have a lot of time until the Games actually started so they had to work fast and pray to whatever there was, "Your interview with Caesar is your final moment to impress sponsors before the games begin. Everyone plays a different angle in these interviews. You've got a good thing going with the Girl from Seven. Yeah?"
Isla nodded, "Yeah. Molly and I have been training together. We're kinda good. People know we're an alliance."
Finnick had tried to get his boy in on the alliance but he wasn't having it, he would try and aggravate Isla any chance he could.
"Good, that's good" Bex told her, she always felt happy when her Tributes aligned with Johanna's or Finnick's, "I want you to be friendly, for the love of god be nice. Don't be scared to lay it on thick, sponsors love that shit."
"I'm not playing a fucking game for an audience who wants me dead" Isla argued
"If you want to make it far in these games, you'll have to"
"I just-"
Bex cut Isla off, "Get off that high fucking horse of yours and listen to me for a minute, I know what I am going and I can help tou. If you give up on yourself before the start of the games, you're as good as dead. You wanna try and come out a Victor? You play the fucking game, and that game starts days before you step foot in the arena. The games began the day you were reaped."
There was a hint of respect in Isla's eyes. Which was good. If there was anyone who knew how to play the Game it was Bex.
Sometimes she hated that.
"I played my game, pretending to be someone I wasn't. You need to do the opposite. Enlarge the thing you are, because we can't hide you. All eyes will be on us tonight, because they want to see what tricks we pull out, be nice but keep your wall. Keep it."
Isla looked genuinely surprised that Bex wasn't trying to make her put on a show of smiles.
Bex smiled, her Tribute was listening to her, "The trick is to make them like you. Tell them that you're here to win."
